Making Communication Tech Work For You: Professionally And Personally

April 7, 2016 by Caren

Ah, communication technology – it’s the most amazing thing in the world, keeping everyone connected and webbed together in the tightest of nets. When it works. But that’s one of the things about the advancement of gadgets and gizmos when it comes to communication specifically – it takes some time to adapt to, and there’s always going to be a learning curve involved. And that goes for both professional and personal use.

Think about a few generations of your family, for instance. Grandparents may be completely comfortable with landlines, a bit more hesitant about cell phones, unsure of smartphones, and completely uncomfortable with video chats. But now teenagers don’t even know how to plug landline phones into the wall, and don’t know anyone’s phone numbers anyway. [Read more…]

The Google Nexus One is here!

January 6, 2010 by Ade

nexusone

That was pretty fast, don’t you think? Just a few short weeks ago, there came out rumors that Google has been giving its employees a mysterious phone that they were supposed to test out over the holidays. Then we see Google employees praising the phone to high heavens over on their Twitter accounts. Heck, after Google’s initial announcement, I was expecting the Nexus One to be released around March to June.

So imagine my surprise to see that the Nexus One is already out, but there’s a review already on TechCrunch! Michael Arrington himself gives his two cents on the Nexus One.

Basically, the phone is everything people loved about Android, and then some. The Voice Keyboard has been retooled so that every single text field in the device is now voice-activated. It has a great camera, a (as of yet vaporware) cloud backup service, and loads of eye candy:

Google has added a lot of nice graphical touches, including 3D scrolling of apps, and a new way of viewing photos using the CoolIris technology. Photos dip into the plane as it there is depth. Tipping the phone trips the accelerometer and the photos dip in the same way.

Unfortunately, the Nexus One’s microphone seems to be placed in an awkward position. If you cradle the phone between your head and shoulder when you’re not using your hands, your voice gets muted. This means you have to bring your headsets all the time. Battery life seems to have taken a hit with all the eye candy Nexus One packed into it too.
But still, the Nexus One looks like a pretty solid phone.

Will it pose a serious threat on the iPhone? What do you guys think?

The Acer Predator Aspire G Is Flaming HOT

July 31, 2009 by Gadzooki

acer-aspire-predator-now-fasterAcer had never been one of my favorite brands of computers but this new release has caught my attention. Their latest gaming computer is dubbed the Acer Predator Aspire G, and it really is something else. At first glance, you might not be that impressed. It really has the same look as the earlier version – all orangey and tough.

First impressions do not always mean everything, though, you should know about that. Inside the tough casing, the hardware is the perfect set up for the ultimate gaming machine. These are the specifications, as is published in The Akihabara News:

For their flagship model, the ASG7710-A41, Acer offers a Core i7-950 @ 3.06GHz CPU, 6GB of DDR3 RAM (up to 12GB), an Intel X58 Express Chipset, 1TB of SATA HDD @ 7200rpm, two Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 (1GB of VRAM), a Blu-ray disc drive, as well as 11 USB 2.0 ports, 2 eSATA ports, a multi-card reader, 4 DVI-D ports, two Gigabit Ethernet… It runs on Windows Vista Home Premium (64bit), and also comes with the G15 keyboard and the G9 Laser mouse.

While I am sure that some of you might already have some machines with specs close to these, having everything in one neat package could be quite convenient, don’t you think? As of now, there is no specific information as to when exactly the Predator will be released. The news is that when it is released, it will cost about $2,700. Who said that predators come cheap?

Salivation Alert Part 2: Hardware!

November 12, 2007 by DummyGeekGurl

Speaking of geeks and salivation, I had come across a picture of my friend’s boyfriend’s computer setup months ago, but the writing of the article itself was put off after mounds of work, mounds of lifestyle stresses, and moving houses, rooms, and what-not galore. So here it is, for all the world to see, my friend’s boyfriend’s PC setup.

I actually thought that this looked so much like an alienoid thing, but I was more fascinated than weirded-out in a girly way. Though I could not relate to his and my friend’s glee at his boyfriend’s having “Reached the CPU and vid card temp that he’s been targetting. So it rocks!” I sure could relate to the fact that this thing does look cool, and I do appreciate a great-looking tricked-out, pimped-out thing any time.

Salivation Alert Part 1: Multiple Displays, Multiple Machines

November 8, 2007 by DummyGeekGurl

There are days when I just wish I were Bill Gates’ (rather, Steve Jobs’) daughter. With a tricked-out setup like his, I would so be beside myself, that if I were married, I won’t be paying hubby any attention because of being absorbed in my system.

When I first saw Bill Gates’s setup on CNN Money, I chuckled to myself because I was so amused how he could need three displays just to check mail. It was only until I had experienced and realized the need to work on two computers at once that I finally reconciled myself to the fact that multiple displays have more than salivation factors. They actually bring a productivity boost that is unparalleled. [Read more…]

Two Computers

November 6, 2007 by DummyGeekGurl

While I was shuffling around in Sayuri to reorganize my files and make room for new articles to be written, I came across this old one. Written last September 14, 2007, I cannot believe how absent-minded I was. Well at least this would save me time from having to whip up another one. :p

Seriously, writing for SplashPress is more of therapy and sanity-salvation nowadays.

Well, enough pre-article banter. Read on for my experience with and addiction to… Two computers. :p [Read more…]
