googletablet Oh boy, is Google sure on a roll. Mere weeks after the announcement of the Google Phone, the Android-powered Nexus One, and the Google Netbook running (also recently-announced) Google Chrome OS, rumors began flying of another hardware product running Chrome OS. And this time it's a tablet computer.

nexus-one-specs-1-2 It looks like Google's not going to let news about their Nexus One die, because specs of the much-awaited Google Phone have come out. I'm guessing this is meant to stem the steady stream of questions about the phone's guts. I mean, how the heck are we all supposed to know if the Nexus One is going to be good if we don't know a single thing about its hardware specs? The good news is that the guys from Engadget have been able to get their hands on a Nexus One, and darn it's good. The highlights of the Nexus One specs are as follows: ...

bt-keyboard Okay, one of the things I really, really hate about netbooks -especially the early ones- is that their keyboards are probably the worst things on them. Currently, the new ones have almost full-sized keyboards that'll more or less accommodate large touch-typing hands. Heh, with my Eee PC 701, I've been reduced to hunting and pecking for the correct keys. Don't even get me started on mobile phones and PDAs. Even QWERTY mobile phone keypads are a pain to use long-term. Nothing beats a 100% full-sized keyboard. Speaking of which, a new keyboard that just passed the FCC guidelines is making a minor buzz right now. Bluetooth keyboards aren't really something ...

500x_500x_crunchpad It's dead, Jim. And now, news of the CrunchPad's demise has reached the blogosphere (twice-over, I must say), we're here to examine the post-mortem. It was an ambitious project: an internet tablet meant to sell cheap. Everybody was waiting for it with bated breath, but it never came.

The world of iPod docks is severely crowded, but when one from Arcam comes along it really is worth sitting up and taking note.

arcam-irdock-ipod-dock

This really is an audiophile-grade dock for iPod and iPhone users. It doesn't output audio itself, but instead allows you to connect to any hi-fi or home cinema system.

toshiba-bdx2000-blu-ray-player

Now that Toshiba has embraced Blu-ray and joined the Blu-ray Disc Association, it has announced its first standalone Blu-ray player, the BDX2000.

As you'd expect from any modern Blu-ray player, it incorporates all the latest features including BD-Live Profile 2.0 support, for full interactivity on compatible discs, full 1080p output including upscaling of standard definition content, support for advanced HD audio including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and Deep Colour.

Toshiba has also put its own REGZA-LINK functionality into the player, meaning that it's possible to control it and other compatible equipment from a single remote control unit.

Sony has today announced seven new Blu-ray based home cinema packages. These are "all-in-one" solutions designed to satisfy consumers who don't want to get involved with the complexities of matching and installing individual components, with the packages ranging in features and power to suit most budgets and requirements.

The BDV-E300 and BDV-E800W (pictured) systems offer a kicking S-Master digital amplifier with 1000W of power, Blu-ray disc player with all the features you'd expect (24p, x.v.Color, upscaling) a range of HD audio decoders and auto setup.

wd-mypassport-essential-se-2

When thinking back to previous computer usage it is somewhat funny to remember how data storage has increased exponentially over the years and probably beating Moore's Law by miles. I still remember the day people told me why we needed a 486SX (25Mhz) with a whopping 170MB HDD. In more recent times I was happy to have a a laptop with 120GB HDD space. Until some months ago that is. When I upgraded my white MacBook to a unibody with 250GB HDD this Spring I also ditched the 'it's a laptop' concept and started carrying more and more media files with me. 30GB quickly became a 100GB partition with less than 20GB available.
The same 20GB barrier has been crushed weeks ago already on my main partition, the OS one.

20GB being important here because it is the moment my OCD gets triggered and I start panicking about not having enough of free space on my drives. Yes, 20GB free space makes me panic!

No need to say that I need a portable external hard drive, but what size to settle for. Fear no more, if you suffer the same problem as I do: Western Digital has just presented 2 new models of it's My Passport Essential SE series.

blu-ray-logoDo you remember the "war" between rival high definition disc formats HD DVD and Blu-ray?

Toshiba backed HD DVD, then effectively pulled the plug on the format early last year, handing a rather strange victory to Sony-backed Blu-ray.

For a long time it seemed that Toshiba would go its own way, developing new forms of upscaling technology for its DVD players and shunning high definition optical discs altogether.

freetalk-everyman-skype-silk-stereo-headset

See what I did with that title there? SILK is the super wideband audio technology that comes built in to the latest versions of Skype (Windows 4.1 / Mac 2.8) and offers much improved stereo audio call quality.

The Freetalk Everyman headset only costs around £19 ($30) and not only offers quality calls but comes with a converter plug that lets you listen to music on your portable music player as well as plug in to your PC via USB.
