Not wanting to be left out after Sony and Nikon announced their compact digital cameras this week, Pentax has been showing off its latest Optio cameras — the P80, E80 and waterproof WS80.

The Optio P80 features a 12.1-megapixel 4x optical zoom lens, a beefed up face recognition that claims to assess 32 faces in 0.03 seconds including those annoying individuals who insist on tilting their heads in photos, smile detection, high definition 720p recording, and a triple anti-shake system that works on both images and movies in normal and low-light conditions.

Hot on the heels of Nikon’s new COOLPIX compacts comes Sony with two new Cyber-shot digital cameras.

Both TX1 and WX1 models offer 10.2 megapixels and Sony’s Exmor R CMOS sensor with BIONZ imaging processor — in English, that means that shooting should be more responsive with reduced noise, even in low light conditions.

Nikon launches huge range of COOLPIX compact digital cameras

August 5, 2009 by Andy Merrett

nikon-coolpix

We definitely like our Nikon dSLRs, such as the excellent D90, D80 and D40, but let’s not forget there’s an increasing range of compact digital cameras from Nikon, including the four COOLPIX model ranges just announced.

Detailed camera specs are pretty boring (but I’ll give you the links if you want to find out more), so here are the highlights.

Perhaps the most exciting in terms of possibilities is the COOLPIX S1000pj. Nikon claims it’s the first compact camera to feature a built-in projector that means you can share your images and videos wherever there’s a wall or screen handy.

February 27, 2009 by Jim

monsterpod_msp1jpgIf you’ve got a camera that is about 20 ounces or less then you just may want to consider purchasing the MonsterPod Tripod.  You’d be surprised how cheap this tripod is at US$30, and yet the convenience of mounting it on any surface pays for it on your first shot.  Yes, the manufacturer promises this will stick good for a good 10 minute job.  Not bad eh?

February 12, 2009 by JW18

cellcEverybody’s sure to have a mobile device today for it has revolutionized the way we communicate with each other. It has created a niche in popular society, responsible for words such as SMS, Texting, Twitter, iReports and many more as testament to our reliance on the said technological wonder. Some love them some hate them but you’d have to give credit that without it, we would still be living in an age where phones had wires.
cellb
Cellular phones are one of the most prolific, intrusive and indispensable technologies we have and they pack a lot of technology in so small a package. From a radio phone, GPS device, digital still and video Camera and a personal digital assistant device, they have all managed to fit in one small box that gives us all the conveniences of communication whatever form it may be.

This from a company that specializes in self-defense products ranging from stun guns, pepper sprays, surveillance equipment and alarms.  The Self Recording DVR Hidden Camera product is a gem to have, specially if you have an area in your home that needs an “eye”.  For example, your nursery, your home office, your bedroom or your den.  TBO Tech Inc. perfected the art of concealing these cameras in objects that would seem too normal to notice.  Like the photo above, could you tell that there is a camera in there?  I couldn’t. 🙂

These hidden cameras could record up to 20 hours.  Data is saved in SD cards, the largest it could use is about 8GB.

The Wrap-Up Tripod

December 17, 2008 by Jim

You know, I’ve been looking long and hard what accessory I need for my digital camera.  I thought of a slicker bag which offered more “space-age” protection OR a tripod (which I also needed just in case I’d need a steadier shot).  I’ve been choosing which to get first as there isn’t enough money-for-gadgets laying around… good thing I discovered one that puts both my needs together.

The Wrap-Up Tripod combines both functions, a case and a tripod all in one simple to use form.  One, you get an easy-to-open case using velcro, and two, you can attach the case to the bottom of your digital camera and THAT gives it the tripod function.  Cool eh?  Now you don’t have to do about 5 steps to get you and your camera that perfect shot.  Just unlock the velcro, flip the tripod stands down under and set that timer up baby! 🙂

The Wrap-Up Tripod is crafted in stretchy neoprene with a quick-release Velcro closure.  Good quality, may I add for just a few bucks.

So far, I’ve only seen it available in a UK online site, right here. Sells for about $30 plus shipping and tax.
