Top Mobile Devices for Business Use

March 17, 2014 by Caren

Businesses today are fully embracing the latest technology to successfully achieve their goals and reach out to a wider target audience. While the conventional desktop computer remains to be the primary tool in the offices, mobile devices have also become very useful owing to the great benefits they provide not only to the owners but as well as to customers.

It’s a reality that business professionals these days bring along with them various mobile devices. These can include the laptop, tablet and smartphone. This is a confirmation of the 2011 prediction of Microsoft Tag that mobile internet use will surpass desktop internet use by 2014. Also this year, experts are seeing increasing mobile adoption by consumers thereby bringing more changes to the marketing strategies of business organizations.

iPhone 5 vs. Galaxy S3

November 3, 2012 by Caren

Whenever a new mobile phone has just come out, it’s customary to compare it with the current leader of the pack to see how it measures up. The hottest, latest smartphone right now is Apple’s iPhone 5, while the reigning champ is Samsung’s Galaxy S3. Which one of these is better? Let’s find out how each one stacks up.

Design and construction

At first glance, this category seemed like a no-brainer: the iPhone 5’s stunning industrial design and craftsmanship has certainly no equal. However, the Galaxy S3’s slightly curved rear end feels better to the touch, compared to the iPhone’s stark corners. However, the case for the S3 goes downhill when you pore over its cheap-looking plastic body, versus the iPhone 5’s aluminum construction. [Read more…]

Best Smartphones of 2012

August 26, 2012 by Rogue

This summer we’ve seen some very impressive devices from the top phone manufacturers. In this article we’ll take a look at what we think are the best smartphones of 2012.

Samsung Galaxy S III

This smartphone is at the top, or near the top, of everyone’s smartphone rankings, and with good reason. You can find it on virtually every major carrier in the United States. Even the folks at Apple, known for this, have not been able to achieve this level of carrier adoption. The hardware is great, although perhaps not innovative enough. Some great software features include Smart Stay, Direct Call, Smart Alert, and the S Voice system for voice commands. With a competitive price and plenty of power under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S III is definitely one of the best, if not the best, smartphone of 2012. [Read more…]

Samsung Releases Audio Dock with Tube Amplifier Technology

January 4, 2012 by Rogue

The digitalization of music may have democratized music in large parts but in terms of quality, compressed music file formats like MP3s are far inferior to uncompressed files or even to analog media sources like LPs.

One of the ways to compensate for this inferiority is by encoding music files at a level that presents more aural quality. This is a great solution and once you’ve heard a file that has been encoded at a great bitrate you’ll never go back to low bitrate file. A great file is a good start but you’ll also need a really good audio hardware to take advantage of your MP3s. [Read more…]

Android 2.3 Gingerbread Is Coming to Town

May 16, 2011 by Noemi

Samsung Galaxy SThere is no doubt about Android-based devices becoming more and more popular. And amongst the Android-based devices out there, Samsung does seem to have an edge over its competitors. The Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Galaxy S are perhaps two of the most sought after gadgets in their respective categories (maybe next to the ubiquitous and more expensive Apple products).

With the rising popularity of these devices, it is but expected to have users on the constant lookout for improvements and updates. And speaking of updates, it looks like Samsung Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S (as well as other gadgets in the Galaxy line) users are in for a treat in the very near future. That is, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade will be made available to the range of Galaxy devices.

In a press release published today, Samsung outlines the following: ((Mobile Syrup))

  • Faster Performance – Multimedia content now has a lower CPU consumption rate, while support for more powerful 3D Graphics enables an enhanced mobile gaming experience.
  • Upgraded Usability – The user interface has been improved, enabling faster access and control and a more intuitive user experience. Users will also benefit from improved copy-and-paste functionality.

I repeat: this upgrade is going to be available for all the Galaxy devices, even the cheaper ones like the Galaxy Mini! This piece of news is enough to make users clap their hands with glee, yes?

The thing is that the upgrade will not be available everywhere at the same time. In the same press release, Samsung mentions that the UK and Nordic countries will receive the Android 2.3 upgrade for the Galaxy S starting the middle of this month (that’s right about now?). The rest of Europe, North America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and the rest of the world will have to wait for the update, which will be gradually rolled out.

Take Ten (1 Sep 09): Vaio/Chrome, movieIQ, Samsung app store, Windows Mobile 6.5, 3G problems by 2010, Wii channel free, Snow Leopard, Kindle in Europe, Nokia World

1. Sony Vaio laptops preloaded with Google Chrome browser

sony-vaiosApparently it’s been happening for some time, but Sony has been preloading some of its US-destined VAIO laptops with Google’s Chrome web browser.

That’s a great result for Google, even thought VAIO’s aren’t necessarily the most popular laptops going and that Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla’s Firefox have a huge market share in comparison (~70%/20%).

Is this a sign that Sony might be keen to get Google’s forthcoming Chrome OS on board? It would be interesting to know, though hard to measure, how much damage PC manufacturers have suffered as a result of sticking Windows Vista on their computers. Windows 7 might be better, but perhaps Chrome OS will join Linux as a credible alternative OS — even as a build option rather than by default — for hardware vendors wanting to distance themselves from Microsoft.

Chrome might only have about two percent of the browser market share at present, but I just get the feeling that share will grow as more deals are done and the word gets out to Joe Public.
