The Siesta Flow, retailing at around £100, is PURE’s most affordable Internet-connected radio, and has features which make it an ideal bedside alarm.

Bored by the same old alarm call every morning? The Siesta Flow has 365 different alarm tones, all downloaded from the PURE Lounge. Of course, there’s all the types of radio you’re likely to want built in as well: DAB, FM and Internet radio.

Five Gadgets I Use Every Day

February 7, 2007 by Mr Butterscotch

When I think about it, there’s not too huge a number of gadgets I use every day, day in, day out. So lets take a look at my ‘standard’ day in the week to see what I use from the realm of gadgets and tech:

Kettle/Toaster: Physically these are of course two separate objects, but both help me form a breakfast (very English it is too) of tea and toast in the morning. Thus they are genuinely useful and fulfil the basic human need of sustenance.

Car: I drive to work in a (now new) car. More mechanically impressive than a true gadget, it still has gps, power steering, anti-lock breaks and an alarm. These all meet my needs for a safe, comfortable journey to work as well as giving peace of mind that my vehicle will be there when I return. Another thing to note is my recent upgrade to a new vehicle with a much larger (half as powerful again) engine, which provides a quiet and probably more green journey, with less need to hit the high revs.

Computer: I work in accounts – a world vastly altered (and much improved) but technology. Expedience and accuracy here are the key changes, which means that the computer I use for my work is an essential technology.

Mobile phone: Of course, even at work I may need to get in touch with people. Today for instance I had to arrange a flight to attend a relations’ wedding. I could look at prices on my phone before proceeding, and get text messages with furter details.

CD player/radio:
Inevitably due to rush hour traffic my journey home is actually longer than my journey to work. As such, I’m really grateful to have a sound system in my car – which even has steering mounted controls! This helps me stay alert after a long day and entertained on a long drive.

I really believe that, even just looking at this half of my day, the technology mentioned makes a huge difference. It has a massive positive benefit to my life. I hope this has made you think a little more of the gadgets you use every day. I know I for one am more appreciative of them. However, it has also made me really nervous of a time when I’m ever without them. Then again, they’re all replaceable – after all it’s the abilities you buy in to, isn’t it?

Delphy Roady XT

Delphy Roady XT

The XT is currently the smallest XM Satellite Radio receiver, however, in order to use the device it must be hooked up to either car/home audio system. Measuring in at 3.7W x 2.25H x 0.615D, it weighs only 2.8 ounces and can transmit to any FM radio within 20 feet.

Bar the fact that the Delphy requires plug and play connectivity, doesn’t support recording or rewind, and cannot match the sound quality of in-car FM radio, it is still mighty small and quite good looking.

Samsung Helix

Another XM2GO player, the Helix by Samsung, is technically the same portable satellite radio device as the Pioneer Inno. The specifications of both players are identical, however there are slight aesthetic differences.

Both players have the same measurements and weight, as well as included peripherals and options.

The Samsung Helix is also set for a spring 2006 at 400USD.

So when chosing between the two latest XM2GO players, flip a coin it might make the process easier

Pioneer Inno

Pioneer Inno

Portable XM Satellite radio players have come a long way in such a short time, as evidenced by Pioneer’s Inno, which for the first time allows both satellite radio and MP3/WAV playback from the same little unit.

The Inno allows you to listen to and record XM content, which can then be organized with the built in content management system. MP3 and WMA files that have been uploaded from a computer can also be organized into the same playlists.

Weighing 4.5 ounces and measuring 94 x 56 x 16mm, the Inno includes a 1.67 TFT screen, 1GB of storage (est. 50 hours of recorded content), artists and tune select, as well as sports and stock tickers.

Included with the XM player is a home docking station and antenna, ear buds, cables, carrying case, and XM/Napster CD.

The Pioneer Inno should be available in spring of this year for 400USD.
