Metal Gear Solid Without Kojima?

September 19, 2005 by David

Speaking at the Tokyo Game Show, Metal Gear director Hideo Kojima has said MGS4: Guns of the Patriots will be his last contribution to the series. And we believe him, oh yes.

“This fourth [Metal Gear Solid] is going to be the final one for me and [art designer] Youji Shinkawa,” he stated.

“There are other things that [we] want to create.”

Except, er, Kojima said roughly the same thing after Metal Gear 3 was completed, and yet somehow managed to drag himself back for a fourth instalment.

Kojima also joked that he’s already found someone to take his place for MGS5 – Kirby creator Masahiro Sakurai, who appeared at Konami’s booth during an MGS event.

Hopefully they find someone who can bring some new life to this aging series. I am not saying that MSG4 will be bad, but I am saying that no matter how good or bad MSG4 is, it is going to be hard to make a worthwhile MSG5.
