FreeBSD adds Xbox 360 controller support

January 5, 2006 by David

Are you anti-Microsoft, but want to use the Xbox 360 controller for your FreeBSD gaming? Well, good news, as a patch was recently released allowing support for the wired Xbox 360 controller.

From the CVS log: “They are HID-capable devices, but lack a report descriptor and don’t use the standard interface class. This patch works around these deficiencies so that the uhid(4) driver can recognize and use those broken devices.”

You can probably expect to see support for Linux and then Mac OS X sometime soon, and then it will be interesting to see what other platforms develop using the controller as an interface. Could they do interesting things long before Microsoft even thinks of it?

Read the CVS Log.
