Three Gadgets To Bring On Your Travels

March 11, 2015 by Caren

Gadgets make your work life easier, your personal life more fulfilling, and they can even add to your overall experience when you are out traveling. “Because it’s important to find the best balance between living in the moment,” says the founder of Journey Beyond Travel, Thomas Hollowell, “it’s also important to balance your experiences with those you wish to record and share with your friends and families back home. We run various treks in Morocco’s hidden areas and we try to tell walkers that they don’t need 1000 photos. It’s just as important to have 1000 memories to hold onto.” But, for those traveling to distant lands, here’s some of our ideas on what you should consider to bring along.

GPS Trackers

GPS trackers are going to come in handy for a number of reasons. First, if you are anywhere you have to drive, they will point you in the right direction when you are lost. Second, there are a number of GPS trackers that will give you a map readout of where you went with timestamps. This means that when you get back from your travels, you will have a minute by minute map of everywhere that you went, and you can pieces together your journey for your jealous co-workers. For safety purposes, if other people can track you, they can find you if you get in trouble as well, for instance in bad weather. [Read more…]

Flip No More

April 13, 2011 by Noemi

Flip
Sadness all around. Yesterday, the news that Cisco is killing the handheld video camera, Flip, spread like wildfire. The reason for Flip getting the ax? It is simply part of a revamp that is going on at the big company, and like it or not, Flip is just a small part of the picture.

When the video camera came out in the market, it immediately caught the attention of consumers. Not only is is ultra portable and convenience, it also cost a fraction of the price of regular video cameras. In 2009, Cisco bought Flip. Less than two years later, however, Cisco has decided to shut down this business in order to cut costs.

This move has surprised customers and business experts. It’s not like Flip is not the top selling video camera in the United States. In fact, it did make the top of the sales charts last year. Even in other parts of the world, one can see Flip being advertised in a lot of places. The rationale behind killing the product line is one that does not seem to make sense at this point. Indeed, there is the option of selling the business instead of simply shutting it down. We may never know the true reason, but those who have loved and used their Flip over the years can rest in the fact that they have one. For those who have not had the pleasure of having a Flip, it is not too late. Cisco says that they will sell off all remaining units. This might be the perfect time to get one!

RIP Flip.

Capture your extreme underwater action on the Predator VX360 video camera

September 21, 2009 by Andy Merrett

CONSUMER New MotionTouch Camera 1

Rugged, wearable video cameras aren’t particularly new, but the macho naming, bright design and feature set of the Predator VX360 caught my eye (as did the price tag).

The VX360 is described as “a totally rugged system”, being waterproof to a depth of three metres and able to withstand impact with rock and the abrasive effects of seawater.
