Steps to Protect your iPhone 4

August 6, 2011 by Rogue

Apple’s iPhone 4 is one of the most sought after mobile phones in the world, if not the most. It’s an amazing piece of technology that redefined the whole concept of a smartphone. There are so many things you can do with an iPhone 4 that some fans of the product even say that you won’t need any other phone. Of course, all the technology and the demand for the iPhone 4 also means that you have to pay a premium to get one. An iPhone 4 is expensive and buying one is not just a simple consumer purchase, it is an investment — that’s why protecting your iPhone 4 should be a top priority if you own one.

There are a number of things you can do to protect your iPhone 4 from loss or damage. Here are some of them:

Protect your iPhone 4 with a passcode

A lot of iPhone 4 users don’t bother to put in a passcode – the four-digit code that locks the phone’s screen. They see it as a bother and an extra step before they use their phone. But don’t mind that extra step, the passcode protects your iPhone 4 in case it is lost. There’s an option that will wipe the iPhone if the wrong passcode is entered ten times. In the event your phone gets lost you’re sure that your private data will not fall into the wrong hands.

Backup your iPhone 4 data

This step is not really about protecting your iPhone 4 as much as protecting the data inside it, which is equally important. Do periodic backups of your data so that you have the latest data with you in case your iPhone 4 gets damaged or lost.

Use an iPhone 4 case

Your iPhone 4 is a wonderful tech device but it is not yet designed to totally withstand physical abuse. Protect your iPhone 4 from scratches and minimize the negative effects of bumps and accidental drops by putting it in a protective case. There are many cases that you can choose from, from svelte, barely there cases; colorful cases, and virtual tanks that protect your iPhone completely. If you’re more concerned about protecting your iPhone 4 rather than aesthetics, get a bulky case that offer strong protection. The bulky case also offers an additional benefit – its added heft will make you notice more if it slides out of your pocket.

Consider an iPhone 4 insurance

As mentioned above, an iPhone 4 is an investment. Just like any other investment, you can offer additional protection for your iPhone 4 by enrolling for an iPhone 4 insurance. This is probably one of the best ways of protecting yourself from theft. iPhone 4’s attract thieves because of its value. With an insurance you can rest assured that if this happens you can file a claim and get compensation and buy yourself a new iPhone 4.

BookBook Case for the iPhone 4

The iPhone is definitely one of the most sought after mobile phones in the market today, and it is also one of the most expensive. In most parts of the world, unless you get the iPhone linked to a telecomm provider contract, the price of the phone can be rather ridiculous. Then again, it does serve as more than a phone, so many people consider the price worth it.

When it comes to buying expensive gadgets, it is also worth purchasing accessories that will help protect the gadgets from normal wear and tear. The iPhone 4 is no different. And if you are looking for an iPhone 4 case, here is an excellent choice: the BookBook iPhone 4 Case.

There is no dearth of iPhone 4 cases in the market – that is for sure. From plastic cases to leather cases to rubber cases – you can find practically any kind at a wide range of prices. If you want to go for the vintage look, though, the BookBook iPhone 4 Case is perfect. As you can see in the image above, the leather is worn beautifully, making it look as if your grandfather had used it lovingly for ages. If you are a bookworm, this case will appeal to you even more.

The BookBook iPhone 4 Case is more than a phone case, though, and this is what really appeals to me.

Taking a look at the image above, you can see that there the BookBook iPhone 4 Case has pockets for other important stuff – things that you would normally put in your wallet. As such, this iPhone 4 case doubles as a wallet! This is actually exactly what I have been looking for. If you think about it, when you do not want to have much with you when you go out, the two items that you will most likely carry is your phone and your wallet. Now if you can put them together, that would just be perfect! And that is exactly what the BookBook iPhone 4 Case does.

This iPhone 4 case is being sold by TwelveSouth for $59.99, which is a very competitive price. If you are in the US, you are in luck as they offer free shipping.

iPhone 4 Case for Just in Case You Need to Open Bottles

June 10, 2011 by Noemi

Opena-iPhone-4-case1

The iPhone (regardless of the model) is undoubtedly one of the most sought after mobile phones today, if not THE most sought after one. Of course, we cannot discount the fact that the gadget itself offers so much fun for the user. However, the plethora of accessories for the iPhone makes owning one even more fun.

Check out this iPhone case, which might very well be the coolest one out there. The brain child of Australians Christ Peters and Rob Ward, the Opena case for the iPhone 4 does more than protect your beloved gadget from scratches and all that jizz. If you find yourself facing an emergency – such as having bottles of beer to open and not having a bottle opener handy – then your Opena case will save the day.

So how did the guys come up with this idea? In their Kickstarter page, they share: ((Opena at Kickstarter))

If you’re anything like us you like to travel light. The one thing we always have on us is our phones. The one thing we always seem to be looking for is a bottle opener. Some of our friends carry bottle openers on their keys but there are times when you don’t always have your keys with you. If you’re drinking should you really be driving anyway?

After consuming a few ales one sunny afternoon we came up with a solution. Why not put a bottle opener into an iPhone case…? Brilliant!

Not exactly a “Why didn’t I think of that” moment, but the guys are on to something, I think. If you’re concerned about the case/bottle opener not being safe enough to protect your baby, you shouldn’t. That is, of course, one of the main considerations that the inventors had when they conceptualized the project.

They are currently raising funds – target is $15,000. You can join in on the fun and be one of the first to receive the Opena. For a mere $15, you get the Opena shipped to you. There are only 100 slots for this. The more you give, the more perks you get. You can check out their Kickstarter page for more information.

The new iPhone has been leaked

April 19, 2010 by Ade

So, the lucky guys at Gizmodo were able to get their hands on an iPhone 4. There’s a bit of a story behind their acquisition. Apparently, Apple has been testing the new iPhone in the wild already, and one of Apple’s employees have, well, misplaced one. A lucky soul found the iPhone in a bar in Redwood City, and was sent to Gizmodo. Wow.

Now, we really can’t be 100% sure that this is indeed the new iPhone. But there are lots of clues that point to it being real. There really is an Apple employee who reported that he lost a prototype iPhone. It was covered in a rubberized casing so it can be disguised as an iPhone 3GS. Right now, it looks like it’s a major departure from previous iterations of the iPhone. Let’s start with the design of the phone itself. Gone is the curved back that defined the first three iPhones. It’s now flat at the back, and if you don’t see the front of the iPhone, you’d think it was made by Nokia or something. I won’t go as far sa to call it ugly, but I’m not exactly a fan of the new look.

Features-wise, this is also a totally different monster. Here’s Gizmodo’s roundup of the new features:

What’s new
• Front-facing video chat camera
• Improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)
• Camera flash
• Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)
• Improved display. It’s unclear if it’s the 960×460 display thrown around before—it certainly looks like it, with the “Connect to iTunes” screen displaying much higher resolution than on a 3GS.
• What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack
• Split buttons for volume
• Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic

What’s changed
• The back is entirely flat, made of either glass (more likely) or ceramic or shiny plastic in order for the cell signal to poke through. Tapping on the back makes a more hollow and higher pitched sound compared to tapping on the glass on the front/screen, but that could just be the orientation of components inside making for a different sound
• An aluminum border going completely around the outside
• Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS (but seemingly higher resolution)
• Everything is more squared off
• 3 grams heavier
• 16% Larger battery
• Internals components are shrunken, miniaturized and reduced to make room for the larger battery

What do you think? Is this the real deal or a really elaborate hoax that Gizmodo fell for hook line and sinker? If this is the real thing, what do you think of the changes?
