Stress is something that arises when we feel out of control of situations and at the mercy of insecurities or worries. Stress isn’t always an indication of something actually being wrong. Often it is simply an illusion that we have created by losing touch with logic and allowing our fears to take over.
Stressing has absolutely no positive effects on your mind or your body. It is best to try to function from a place of fixing issues rather than dwelling on them. When you start to feel your stress taking over and you have a large pile of things to do, instead of giving into the feelings you are experiencing, try the following tactics and feel yourself shift to a different state of mind.
Write To-Do Lists
Sometimes all of the pending tasks in our minds create a disorganized cluster that has no order or plan. Rather than just letting this information sit in our brains in a jumbled mess like some sort of puzzle scattered all over the floor, pick up the pieces and start putting things together.
The way to do this is by making a list of all of the things that you need to get done. There is a special satisfaction and tidiness that comes along with being able to check things off of a list as they get finished.
You can add things as crucial as pay off your house, to something as mundane as taking a shower. No matter how large or small the task, add it to your list if it helps you feel like you are moving closer to a resolution.
Go For a Walk or Run
Sometimes our stress has a physical effect on our bodies which can stifle us from being able to be productive. Our bodies go into a shock mode when there is too much stress and can even lead to disease and illness if in a prolonged state like this.
When you begin to feel stress try getting out of the house and getting your body moving. This will distract the brain and get some endorphins flowing. It can be as intense as a full-fledged run or even just a moderate pace around the block.
Take a Bath
Baths are relaxing and take the body to a calmer state. Since it mimics the sensations of the womb, it is a natural stress reliever for just about everyone.
Try putting on some relaxing music and lighting candles. Let your mind focus on positive things only and forget all of your troubles for the duration of this relaxing experience.
Talk To a Friend
Sometimes expressing how we feel and getting feedback about it is a great stress reliever. Friends can be the support we need to put things into perspective and sometimes realize that the solution to our stresses is a lot more simple than we thought.
