Gadzooki
GadzookiSome of you might be underwhelmed with the TV that I have on my mind right now. No it’s not 103 inches. It’s not even plasma or lcd. But then again it’s also not $80,000.

The TV I have my eye on right now is the new 62 inch DLP from Toshiba. Before you question my choice, let me tell you a bit about the criteria I set for myself a while back.
Rule 1: Can’t spend more than $2000
Rule 2: Must be at least 50 inches
Rule 3: Must be highest quality picture currently available
Rule 4: Must be HD ready
So there you go: 4 rules. Now it turns out that Plasma and LCD are currently priced too high to meet rule 1 and 2 at the same time. DLP is really the only candidate. Plus, on rule 3, DLP still kicks the butt of Plasma and LCD with overall resolution, color and contrast.
The only real downside of DLP is the size and weight. But they are still much better in this regard than standard tube televisions. But for me, the size and weight aren’t that big of an issue. I’ve got plenty of room for my TV and don’t need to hang it on a wall.
So it turns out that there is this new Toshiba DLP TV Model 62HM195 that meets all my requirements. It costs $1700 on the web (buydig) so it’s obviously less than $2000. It’s got the best resolution on any consumer quality TV available today. It’s 62 freakin’ inches (probably too big!) It has the new Talen X 1080p DLP engine which even helps enhance the quality of non-HD programming.
To be honest, I can’t believe that such a large, high quality television is available for such a low price. It’s too good to be true. I Want One! and my hope is to have one of these by Christmas 2006;-) Will keep you posted.

The CrunchPad is dead. Now what?
It’s dead, Jim.
And now, news of the CrunchPad’s demise has reached the blogosphere (twice-over, I must say), we’re here to examine the post-mortem. It was an ambitious project: an internet tablet meant to sell cheap. Everybody was waiting for it with bated breath, but it never came.

Steam finally coming to Macs in April
I’m really agnostic in this whole Mac vs. PC thing here – I use (and love) a Windows 7 workhorse, but at the same time I’m seriously considering getting a Mac for my next computer. Of course, it goes without saying I can’t make fun of both sides of the debate: Windows – blue screen [...]

02|Sep|2006Well not a lot to say about this really other than ‘I want one’. My folks have a large DLP TV downstairs (Sony) and it’s very very impressive.
