Droning On

Amazon has a drone, the US military has scores of drones, but you might be surprised to find out which professionals are also loving the drone movement. Realtors, real estate property managers and others in the housing industry are leading the pack when it comes to drones for everyday consumption. In fact, these gadgets are changing the entire real estate game for the better. Forget hiring a helicopter to take aerial shots of a property; a drone can do that for a fraction of the price.

Imagine this: You want to buy or sell a piece of property. To showcase the property from a real bird’s eye view, you need a high quality aerial photo. Or maybe you’re looking to buy a property and you’re on the fence between Choice A and Choice B. Suddenly Choice A dishes up an aerial view and you can really see how sprawling the backyard is or how close you are to the good park with the cool playground. A droid just sold a house, and it’s helping buyers and sellers alike stack the odds favorably.

How they can be used

Great property managers are using drones to take snapshots of properties and send it to landlords who might not be in the same city. They’re being used for real estate agencies to drastically improve their odds of selling homes since buyers want the most comprehensive snapshot of a house possible. There are more and more buyers looking to purchase sight unseen (perhaps they live abroad), and the more photographic evidence you can offer, the better. Basically, drones are providing what no other type of “camera” can: A fresh perspective.

Just like any relatively new technology, the price of drones can be a little high. However, there are more and more budget-friendly options available and you can now purchase drones for under $1,000. Even the wallet-friendly options offer stunning photographs, but here’s the kicker: Any aerial photo is better than none. The real estate industry has picked up on that.

Just for fun

Of course, you don’t need to be in real estate in order to justify having a drone. Remember the Modern Family episode when a drone was used to spy on the kids? Are you a contractor or architect who’s looking for every possible angle before tackling the next project? Want to be the first drone photographer to show in a gallery?

The options are limitless and the quality of drones improves every month. Isn’t it time you had the latest toy? A drone is often far less expensive than the latest laptop, or even some smartphones, which makes it the ultimate toy for any techie. Plus, it provides and instant cool factor that’s hard to beat.
