5 Ways To Recover From Technology Overkill

July 25, 2017 by Lucilla

For as much as technology is a great thing, it’s definitely possible to go overkill. And once you’re suffering from technology burnout, you may be wondering what exactly you can do about it. If you already go to technology when you’re trying to relax, then moving away from technology in order to relax might feel a little awkward.

But, a few options that will lead you in the desired direction include getting a massage, reading an old classic book, turning off all of your devices, walking through a park, or even just taking a moment to remind yourself about the positives of technology so you don’t get caught up in negatives.

Get a Massage

One of the best ways to treat yourself in order to recover from technology overkill is to get a massage. Have someone else use their techniques to get rid of all of the tension in your muscles that have been grinding together because of your use of technology. Your lower back, your upper back, and your neck are the most common things to really have feel sore from too much cell phone or computer use. Get a massage will take care of all of that stuff and make you feel better about the rest of your day.

Read An Old Classic

Another way to recover from technology overkill is if you read a classic book that was written before modern technology took over. When you read a book that doesn’t have any mention of computers or cell phones in it, your brain will start to relax a little bit. And there is an amazing amount of literature that is full of images and transformative ideas that will move your mindset away from your burnout.

Turn Off the Devices

Technology has done a lot of amazing things for the world at large, but it’s no surprise that there has turned into an excessive amount of noise through our modern communication channels. To appreciate your life as it is a little bit more right now, consider turning off your devices for a few hours or even for a whole day. It might feel awkward for a minute, but you will come back feeling refreshed.

Walk Through a Park

Taking a walk through park is also a good way to get rid of some of the technology burnout you may be feeling. Being out in nature and away from digital screens will give you a good chance to take a breath and remind yourself that there is more to life than constant communication and information.

Remind Yourself About Tech Positives

Finally, simply reminding yourself about the positives of technology may prevent you from fixating on all the negatives. You can complain all you want about how you feel overwhelmed by the amount of communication that you have. But think of how nice it is to have that communication available in the first place! Sometimes recovery is more about a shift in perspective than an actual event.
