Ridge Racer 6 Hands-On

September 29, 2005 by David

It looks like Rob Semsey – “Horus” of Team Xbox has been able to try out Ridge Racer 6, an arcade racer for the Xbox 360.

There really wasn’t a lot to take away from the limited Ridge Racer 6 demo that we played, aside from the fact that it initially feels like the classic games that have been at the top of the arcade racing scene for over a decade. The controls and physics are on par with the over-the-top sort we’ve come to expect from the series, but so many other questions are still unanswered. How will the game take advantage of the Xbox 360’s online offerings? How will the AI react in this next-gen version? Will there be any new gameplay modes to the series? We hope to have these answers and more as we draw closer to the release date of Ridge Racer 6.

They have two videos up of in game play, and it looks pretty good. You can tell its an arcade based racer as he does a 360 spin without losing too much speed. I agree with Rob about needing to see the AI side of the game, as in a racing game, that is the most important thing. If the AI is no good, then the gaming experience feels wrong and washed out.
