The first independent figures regarding the launch performance of the Xbox 360 in North America have been released by the NPD Group, revealing that 325,902 consoles were sold by the end of November. Unfortunately shortages are the only reason that the amount sold is so low, and so we will never know if the Xbox 360 could have met the original Xbox’s 556,000 units in a comparable time.
Microsoft is making regular hardware shipments to retail since the launch, and will continue to do so into the New Year, but with many retailers still working through the long line of pre-orders that were taken many months ago, it may not be until after Christmas before there is free stock on retailer’s shelves of the Xbox 360.
