Ever miss playing with your friends by minutes because you did not know they were on Live? Well, soon you could get a little SMS message letting you know they are around. I don’t have a cell phone, and if I did, I would not need to coordinate with my friends through SMS messaging. If they are on great, if not, then I see if they are on MSN. I don’t think they should have to intrude on my life and send me an SMS letting me know they want to play. Especially since I would not be home if my cell phone is on.
Gamers could soon be able to receive alerts on their mobile phones when their friends are playing on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 games console.
The software giant is working on a system which would let players on its online gaming service, Xbox Live, send instant messages to a friend’s mobile.
Microsoft UK mobility business manager Jason Langridge told the BBC the system should be live within six months.
It is part of Microsoft’s strategy to connect its various online services.
