Where the Xbox 360 Falls Short

October 17, 2005 by David

Joystiq has an article up, pointing to one on Gamestay, where someone wrote a rant about being upset that saved game data will not be backwards compatible.

Here’s the argument in condensed format:

  • There are no options to transfer your original Xbox saves (you’ll have to re-earn all your DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball swimsuits, for instance)
  • Hard disk failure means that saved data will eventually be lost (unless you’re running a modded Xbox)
  • Microsoft doesn’t want to support transfer of saved game data or backwards compatibility because it would depress sales of Xbox 360 titles if people were still playing old titles

I think that not having your original Xbox saves is a little disappointing, but not the end of the world. Especially, if you still have your original Xbox to play them on.
