Microsoft is looking into making a portable console, and if it is anything like the Xbox 360 in style and the original Xbox in power and graphics, they could have a winner.
Putting some of its best executives on the project, J. Allard leads the project, while Greg Gibson is a director. These are people who worked on the Xbox 360 project, and made it such a big success for Microsoft.
Though competitors have a huge lead in such a market, Microsoft has a lot of money, and if they decide to devote their best people to the project, and give them what is basically unlimited resources, I have no doubt that the portable Xbox project could be a headline product in 2007.
In an interview with Business Week in January, Xbox corporate vice president Peter Moore said “it can’t just be our version of the iPod” and added the Xbox brand “is an opportunity” if Microsoft decides to enter the mobile entertainment competition. He declined to comment on the rumor about the handheld. But sources familiar with the project confirmed its existence within the Xbox organization.
