I don’t know what’s worse, a broken heart due to a misplaced relationship, or a broken heart because the new MacBook Air is out and DummyGeekGurl can’t get one… Yet.
Either case, my heart is making somersaults, because both events happened within 10 minutes of each other.
But relationship woes aside, I’d like to welcome me back. :p
I was gone for a while there because my church was having its annual corporate fast. Now I’m back, and I have news.
Just when I finished writing down my ex’s latest series of messages in my “transition diary,” I got a yahoo messenger message that the MacBook Air is out.
Yes, kiddies, the rumors are true. Apple has a new ultraportable, and her name is MacBook Air.
Hmm, so Steve is now into customer satisfaction eh?
Because the Machead community had been clamoring for it, Apple obliged with an amped-up (in a Japanese-style minimalistic definition of the phrase) version of the much loved 12” Aluminum/Titanium Powerbook.
Salivate at the specs the Apple website has set for the new MacBook Air:
Flat-out stunning
Between 0.16 to 0.76 inch thin and weighing only 3.0 pounds, MacBook Air sets new standards for ultra-portable computing — without the usual ultra-portable compromises.
Imagine, a 3-pound MacBook! No more sore back for me, no more achy shoulders!
The only downside is that this pretty thing is only 1.8 GHz fast. But, worry not, both configurations come with 2GB of RAM.
Here are the specs overviews for the two MacBook Air models, with their prices:
13” 1.6 GHz
* Intel Core 2 Duo processor
* 2GB memory
* 80GB 4200-rpm PATA hard drive
* Built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi2 and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR$1,799.00
——————————————————————
13” 1.8 GHz* Intel Core 2 Duo processor
* 2GB memory
* 64GB solid-state hard drive
* Built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi2 and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR$3,098.00
One thing I realized is that Solid State hard drives seem to be the new frontier of laptop storage lately. And I’m not surprised. With the SSD using up less resources because nothing rotates, plus the fact that the machine doesn’t heat up too easily, I’m sure more and more laptop makers are going to create machines with the solid-state drive.
Now, if only they had a price point comparable to the eeePC, then I’m sure this would be snapped up like hotcakes in the not-as-affluent world too. But I guess one just has to pay top dollar for the works of that genius named Jonathan Ive.
