The advent of touch screens – as seen before in PDAs and now with tablets and smartphones – has made one thing apparent. It’s cool to write on these devices and it really has the potential to bring about the paperless environment some tech visionaries have been talking about.
One of the devices I’ve discovered that brings the ease of writing on a notepad while bringing in new technology to the mix is the Boogie Board Paperless LCD Tablet. This is a new gadget that is essentially an electronic notepad. With this device you won’t ever have to fumble for a pen or a piece of paper if you immediately have a need to jot down something. The Boogie Board can do the job easily. It has a pressure sensitive touch screen on which you can draw, write or doodle. You can use the included telescopic stylus to write on it. But you can also use your finger or any kind of item that can be used to apply the necessary pressure to write or sketch on it. Erasing is equally easy. It has a small button at the top that you press to immediately erase what you’ve written.
The Boogie Board uses a touch screen that is very sensitive that different levels of pressure will be enough to show different levels of thickness on the lines that you draw. The power requirements of this device is also very impressive. A watch battery is all that is needed to provide the necessary power to operate the Boogie Board. No heavy batteries for this device and or having to bother with cables or charging adaptors. The only drawback here (if you can really call it a drawback) is that the LCD screen has a definite shelf life. It is only effective to about 50,000 erasures. But if you think about how many pieces of paper you can save then it’s really worth it after all.
