Processor core, that is. Which one would you prefer? I know that most, if not all of us, would definitely scream, “dual core”!!!
Dual core processors are hailed to be faster, more efficient, and will enable the user to multitask in a manner that was unimaginable on a single-core machine.
I never realized how true this press release was until I got my own dual core baby. In the past month, I have been frustrated with slow programs and programs that I have had to force quit, despite the fact that I am on Intel Core 2 Duo. It wasn’t until minutes earlier that I was able to appreciate the beauty of dual core. How? I was copying the movie A Beautiful Mind through my combo drive. It was done in 6 minutes, while I was also copying Memoirs of a Geisha (2 files, 650++ MB each) from my desktop PC through WLAN. All this while, at least four other programs were open. Amazing!
On the other hand, my desktop, with its AMD Duron standard processor at 701MHz, can’t even go past three programs without compromising the system’s performance!
Oh yeah, I know, I knoooow, 701MHz is sooo last century: there’s definitely no comparison. But I’m just saying that it’s amazing how much multitasking and abuse you can do on a dual core computer. I never realized that I was living in the past century on my desktop PC until today, when I totally maxed out my Mac with copying those heavy files and running all those programs I have opened in the background…
And this is the point where I start to salivate on the thought of getting a quad-core machine… Anyone up for donating one? 😀
