Social Media Is The Next Tech Governance Arena
Social media has become almost inextricably linked to the online strategy of organizations and businesses. They use social media for marketing purposes, external communications, as well as crowd sourcing ideas regarding product and service development. Despite the immense amount of use social media is getting within these organizations and businesses, a surprising few have done anything to establish guidelines for controlling, restricting, or encouraging desired behavior via social networks. According to Barry Murphy a governance analyst, corporate governance in the information technology is still waiting to be applied to social media, but it’s only a matter of time before this becomes a necessary step for businesses.
Risks, Security, and Privacy Concerns
The benefits of social media tools are a huge asset to businesses, but according to a publication released by the Global Corporate Governance Forum, there are several risks regarding security and privacy concerns that are inherent to the usage. One of the reasons social media has snuck by largely without project plans or risk assessment is that the technology is already familiar to most and teams have introduced the technology without thinking about the possible risks. Businesses must now backtrack slightly to create strategies to overcome these risks. [Read more…]
Law Enforcers Turn to Technology for Better Protection
Law enforcement agencies exist for a reason: to uphold the law and serve and protect a country’s citizens. The very nature of the work of law enforcers entails facing potential danger, whether it’s from hardened criminals or petty criminals.
Sometimes, the use of force is justified – even necessary. Sometimes it is not. The call is hard to make, and San Diego Criminal Lawyer Samantha Greene emphasizes this state of affairs. She says, “The line between necessary use of police force and going overboard is becoming even more blurry. There are cases where the perpetrator is clearly a danger to the police, and there are cases when the police react with more force than necessary. But who’s to say which is which?”
One thing is for sure: with the spate of brutality on both ends, law enforcers are now facing a challenge: to be able to protect themselves without unnecessarily harming civilians. [Read more…]
iPhone 6 Sales: 10,000,000 Units in 3 Days?!
iPhone 6 Sales Pass 10 Million Mark in First Weekend
Apple announced sales figures pertaining to the new iPhone 6, and it’s looking good for the company. The iPhone 6 and it’s counterpart the iPhone 6 plus have already made over a crushing 10 million sales in only three days time! The new devices launched over the weekend, and have since shattered records of any other Apple opening weekend.
These are amazing sales figures for Apple, and likely intimidating for their competition. But this should come as no surprise, considering Apple had revealed these devices had already broken pre-order records, to the point of the incessant web traffic crashing its website.
Current Apple CEO Tim Cook stated “Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier. We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin.” He then apologized, “While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”
So based on that, we can assume that despite shattering previous launch weekend records, Apple could have moved even more units, had supply constraints not come into play as the sole limiting factor. Needless to say, one can expect the devices to move in even greater frequency and break even more records when they are launched throughout the world in more locations.
The devices are currently available in the United States, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Puerto Rico, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong. The iPhone 6 will be continued to be released in 20 other countries at the end of the week. By the end of the year, the iPhone 6 will be available in over 115 countries worldwide.
Outer Space Police Patrolling the Atmosphere
Space technology began in 1957 when the United States launched the Sputnik 1 satellite. The experiment proved successful and the unit remained in orbit for three months before burning in the atmosphere. Since that time, numerous satellites have launched for the purpose of exploring space, monitoring geographical and meteorologic conditions of the planet or performing military surveillance. Today, companies like Satcom Solutions have made it possible for the more than 1,000 satellites to launch and orbit at various atmospheric levels while performing many diversified tasks. [Read more…]

Philippine Navy members have arrested Chinese fishermen in the area several times for gathering marine species protected by the government. [Read more…]
