Hexic HD Review

December 5, 2005 by David

Joystiq has a review of one of the titles included on the Xbox 360 hard drive: Hexic HD. Unlike the other Live Arcade games you don’t need to spend any Microsoft points to get the full version as it is included 100% free from the start.

Hexic looks like your typical puzzle game from its shiny and brightly colored panels, but the way you play it is mainly by rotating trios of hexagons around central axes in a hexagonal grid to strategically remove clusters of tiles from the board. As the official Microsoft site for the game says, you must use “bonus pieces and starflowers to boost your score and discover new ways to play. But watch out for bombs-—clear them before they explode or it’s game over.”

In the end they give Hexic HD an 8/10, which is better than some of the largely published games are getting, so if you have a chance, run some Hexic HD, and have some real semi-retro fun.

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved Review

November 30, 2005 by David

360 Insider and everyone else have been in love with an Xbox Live Arcade game called Geometry Wars. Over at 360 Insider, they decided to finally give it a review.

Geometry Wars is a 2d top-down shooter which blends the feel of many classic arcade games (Asteroids and Space Invaders comes to mind). The game play will take you back to simpler times: simply survive as long as you can and rack up as many points as possible. That’s really all there is to the game. By purchasing the full version, don’t expect new levels or modes (except the original Geometry Wars, aka “Retro” mode). I’m not saying this as a bad thing. As an arcade game I love how simple (and addictive) it is. This is the kind of game you will continually come back to in between long PDZ or PGR3 multiplayer sessions.

Hands-on: Perfect Dark Zero

October 14, 2005 by David

I would love to sit down and talk to Justin of 360hacker.net. That guy is so funny.

He recently posted his hands-on review of Perfect Dark Zero. To sum it up, he was a little less impressed than I expected people to be with this game.

I sat down to play Perfect Dark Zero with one question in mind: Will this game be able to replace Halo 2, or at least hold everyone over until Halo 3? The answer is, in short, no. And I can tell you why in one word: jump.

Head on over to 360Hacker.net and read the rest.
