Fight Night Round 3 Review

March 3, 2006 by David

ztgamedomain looks at the key boxing game to have for the Xbox 360, or is that the only boxing game for the Xbox 360? Without any competition from other similar titles it can be hard to judge a game, but Fight Night is just a fun experience, and manages to earn itself an eight out of a possible ten on their review scale.

Of course, the thing you’re going to be paying most attention to is the warriors in the ring, and they certainly do not disappoint. Fighters are incredibly well modeled, and animate beautifully. Perhaps the most impressive thing about them is the expression that their incredibly articulate faces show off while slamming home a huge punch, or taking one on the chin. There are some slight graphical hiccups, including some clipping issues with boxer’s hair, the ropes, and the ring floor, but overall they don’t distract too much from the visual masterpiece of the title.

Having only played the demo, I can still say without a doubt that this is a title to have to unwind after a day at the office.

MadCatz HeadCOM Pro Review

March 3, 2006 by David

Club Skill looks at the MadCatz headset for the Xbox 360. It ends up with a rating of two out of a possible five, so this is probably not something you’d want to plug into your Xbox 360. Atleast, we know for sure now…

The great thing about the Official 360 Headset is the little ‘mute’ button and volume on your headset jack; this made life very easy indeed. The new MadCatz headset doesn’t have either, granted the wire is long and very flexible, but the only way to change the headset’s volume is going through your own personal menus. And if you want to mute your voice, you’re going to have to disconnect that headset.

Ghost Recon: AW Hands-On

March 2, 2006 by David

Someone over at ClubSkill.com managed to give GRAW (Ghost Recon: Advanced Warrior) a hands on look, that lucky guy…

Graphically the game looked stunning, it doesn’t actually look like the videos you see on IGN or Gamespot mainly because they have had filters added to them so that they enhance the games looks, but I actually think it looked far better without the filters from the videos. Jaggies are nowhere to be seen and the actual character looks pretty much perfect, you can of course change you character’s looks but for some reason we were all this Rambo style red neck. The explosions are monumental; there is nothing better than watching a car explode with the opposing team member being burnt alive behind it. Also smoke grenades and frags look just like the real thing, I mean before now smoke grenades looked like something out of care bears, but Ghost Recon has made them look absolutely perfect.

I am not big on first person shooters, especially team based shooters, as I always get stuck with the guy, that does not know how to use the controls and gets himself killed over and over, but with how good GRAW looks, and how much fun some of my friends and I would have playing it, I can see myself buying it, even if I do get stuck with the guy that plays the game like a two year old randomly pounding on the controls.

Xbox 360 Swivel Stand Review

February 28, 2006 by David

Pelican Xbox 360 Fan StandPlanet Xbox looks at the Pelican Xbox 360 Fan Stand (PL-3619) which could be either a useless piece of junk, made only to make Pelican money, or a useful tool to stop your Xbox 360 from nearly lighting itself on fire.

Overall, I am pretty happy with the Pelican Fan Stand. It provides the extra air flow that my Xbox needed and at the same time can store 1 Game, a memory card and a remote for the 360 on it. The only downside for me was the fact that you manually have to turn on/off the fan every time you play. The switch itself is pretty small and it would be nice if there was some kind of a status light of the fan stand to tell us if the fan is on or off.

So, if your 360 is in a spot that has little to no air flow, I would suggest picking up this great accessory.

Prey: Hands On

February 9, 2006 by David

GamePro.com has been lucky enough to sit down and play the Xbox 360 version of PREY, a first person shooter using the Doom 3 engine. The game look absolutely amazing from the screen shots I have seen, and the game has a fair bit of history, as it was originally a 3D Realms title.

Though 3D Realms is no longer directly developing the title, Chris Rhinehart of Human Head made it clear that 3D Realms is still loosely overseeing its development. As in the original game, Prey’s protagonist is of Native American descent. In keeping with the original premise, the story still revolves around a massive alien invasion. Finally, the much-publicized portal technology–now running on heavily modified Doom 3 tech–is intact and more mind-bending than ever.

We recently had a rare opportunity to see Prey in action, both on the Xbox 360 and the PC. We’re pleased to report that Prey looked surprisingly slick and polished.

The article spans three pages, and I highly recommend you sit through all three as there is plenty of material to drool over. I am highly excited about this game.

XBox Live Review

February 2, 2006 by David

Over at 360 Insider, they recently took a look at Xbox live, and its packaged it up into a review basically saying Sony will not be able to create anything so decent for their PS3.

Sony can take a stab at XBox Live, especially given their extensive foundation in the on-line game play universe, but console based connectivity has never been their strong suit. They can beat up XBox Live on price perhaps, but that is unlikely.

GUN Review

January 29, 2006 by David

Planet Xbox 360 has a review of GUN, a western shoot-em-up.The game earns itself a 72 out of 100 in their review scale, so you might want to rent it before you go ahead to buy it for your system.

The game is set in the great American West of 1890, where no one is your friend, including the law. Shootouts come and go and each day you will find yourself in constant peril. You play as Colton White and are on a mission to find out who killed your father and also to wreak an unimaginable amount of pain on a character known as ‘The Reaper’. The story itself does what it needs to and keeps you playing; you are always wanting to know what, why, when and who comes next in the storyline, and because of that you play non-stop – even if it makes you fall asleep only to wake up six days later to find you’ve completed the game and that the world has come to an end.

Joystiq Reviews King Kong

January 27, 2006 by David

Over at Joystiq they created an in depth review of King Kong, and found it to be a rental so you could earn some easy gamerscore points. They did though give it a high eight point five out of ten on their rating scale.

Curiously, the admission that the Xbox 360 port was tested solely on high definition monitors, resulting in an image that is often too dark on standard definition televisions, wasn’t apparent to this gamer. If anything, many scenes were too dark on both high definition and standard definition screens, with no distinction between the two.

I have only been able to play the demo, and let me say…”Where am I going!?” as I bonk into another stone wall with a dark shadow on it.

Full Auto: Review of the Demo

December 28, 2005 by David

I got the January issue of XBOX Official Xbox Magazine, and on the demo disc I was able to try out Full Auto. A game of vehicle destruction.

For me it was only one feature that made the game worth playing. Forget the destruction, you can have that in many games, though this game does it quite well. Forget the turbo boost, as almost all street racing games now include this feature in much the same way. Forget the cool looking cars, as almost every game involving cars as cool cars. The graphics are not up to par with Need for Speed: Most Wanted for the Xbox 360. So what makes it playable and enjoyable? The unwreck feature is what makes the game so much fun. Where in other games once you make a mistake it is done, and you have to move on, with Full Auto, you can go back a second to almost a minute and undo a mistake that might have destroyed your car, or lead you to miss a key shot you could have had on an enemies vehicle. To gain the ability you must run a rampage through the city destroying things to earn unwreck time so that you can go back in a slow motion reverse much like rewinding a film.

I think this is a fun game to play, and wish I had more than just the demo to mess with. The game will be hitting stores, February 14th.

King Kong Xbox360 Review

December 14, 2005 by David

Pocket-Lint has taken a look at King Kong for the Xbox 360, and they are not too impressed at what turned out. Though it has been considered one of the best movie to video game conversions, it is just too short.

Unfortunately the game just doesn’t hold up for us. The levels are ridiculously short and the game even shorter. What doesn’t help is that the levels are linear and you’ll whiz through this game in a long afternoon or a short evening.

So King Kong is reduced to a rental. I guess that is not so bad, as there are other titles I would rather devote my hard earned dollars towards.
