Battlefield 2: Modern Combat Review

April 12, 2006 by David

Gamepro has a review of Battlefield 2: MC.

The Battlefield rules of operation apply in Modern Combat. Much like previous Battlefield games, the gameplay is a mix of fast first-person shooting with a hint of authenticity of the era in which you’re fighting. Battlefield 2: Modern Combat excels online. Too bad the single player experience isn’t as exciting. The visual and audio package is suitable for Battlefield 2. In general, the areas look great, but there is noticeable draw-in where you’d least expect it.

They give the game a 4 out of 5 for fun factor. The only thing to dip below that rating is the controls which score a 3 out of 5.

Plantronics GameCom X30 Headset Review

March 30, 2006 by David

Plantronics GameCom X30Over at 360Insider they have put up their full review of the Plantronics GameCom X30 Headset for the Xbox 360.

In my testing both the sound and mic quality are superb. The Halo 2 headset had an in-ear design which provided great voice audio quality, but muffled the sound from your TV speakers for whichever ear the headset was in. The X30 headset provides similar audio quality, but since it doesn’t go as far inside the ear you can still hear all the other crucial game sounds. Regarding the mic, the noise-cancelation seemed to work well and others in the game could hear me loud and clear.

In the end they liked it because of its great audio and mic quality, as well as how light and comfortable it was. The thing they mentioned disliking was that the volume control was in-line rather than at the plug.

Rumble Roses XX Review

March 29, 2006 by David

Gamepro reviews Rumble Roses XX, and says the game does what it indends to do by being a silly sexy street fighter game.

This game satisfies just about every fetish, with the exception of a Chyna-bodied wrestler. The seductive teacher, the wet nurse, the sun-razed Californian bimbo, and even a generic Britney Spears are included for you to have power over. XX has eight modes in total, including a Street Fight mode where pinning is not employed and instead functions like your traditional fighting game, and a Queen’s Match mode where the winner gets to humiliate the defeated by ordering her to do things such as a silly dance, in other words, to shake what momma gave them, and in this case it’s a set of fatty water balloons.

They manage to find the ability to give the game a four out of five, though I don’t know for sure why they would rank it that high, except for the extreme amount of sexy girl action going on….hmm… Maybe that’s why.

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires Review

March 29, 2006 by David

I am not a big fan of some of the games that are being released on multiple consoles right now, as it usually means the Xbox 360 is getting the short end of the stick, and Gamepro might agree with me on that, as they review Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires.

With the game appearing on both the Xbox 360 and PS2, you’d think that the next-gen visuals would blow away the current-gen version. Well, this actually only ends up being partially correct. While the Xbox 360 version does look pretty nice, with improved character models and particle effects for Musou attacks, the game still suffers from a heavy case of generic environments and repetitive enemy models. Enemies still look virtually the same, and levels are made up of cookie-cutter segments that lack any real visual punch.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Review

March 27, 2006 by David

Xboxic reviews Oblivion, which was recently released for the Xbox 360, and they make it sound like the game to own.

When you start you need to create a character. You can customize literally everything, from obvious things like the character’s class (Warrior, Mage etc.) and race to less common things like face and birth sign. Especially the face customization sets the bar for the level of detail found throughout the whole game: we’re not just talking eye color here, but inner brow level, cheek width, hair length and angle of the eyes. To round it all off, your chosen age is realistically factored into the looks of the character.

For a score, they give The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion a nine out of ten. They single point off comes from the minor irritatations in the graphics and the lack of surprise attacks.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Review

March 22, 2006 by David

1UP.com has posted a preview of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion which gives a first look at the game after twenty hours of play time.

About 20 hours into The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and this sucker is just getting started. Where most videogames would be wrapping things up, I’m just starting to get a handle on the story and my character. And that’s just fine. No, that’s just great.

Because Oblivion is a game with an embarrassment of riches (including a beefy 50 achievements to earn in the Xbox 360 version). The world is enormous and packed with things to do, the use-based character development and skill system is insanely rich and full of choices, and there are more core quests, side quests, miniquests, and simple oddball things to do than in any 10 games combined.

I am not into long RPG’s, and so I don’t think this game is for me, but if you want to spend hundreds of hours working on a character, you might want to snatch a copy as soon as it hits store shelves, as I have a feeling it is going to sell quickly.

Ghost Recon 3: Advanced Warfighter Review

March 21, 2006 by David

Pocket-lint looks at GRAW, and gives it a decent review. They liked the graphics, amount of action, and the ability to command vehicles. They did not really like is that it was not as tactical as some might have wanted, and that you need a big television to see all the HUD elements.

While the Xbox360 still suffers from a lack of good solid titles, Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon is hoping to put an end to that on the tactical squad based first person shooter side, but has the game got what it takes to win through?

Based across a sprawling Mexico City landscape the game takes the Ghost Recon series to a new level. Graphics are impressively sharp, sound movie-like and better still the gameplay to match.

In the end they give Ghost Recon 3: Advanced Warfighter an eight out of ten.

Far Cry Instincts Predator Review

March 16, 2006 by David

Far Cry Instincts Predator It looks like 360 Monster was impressed with Far Cry Instincts Predator, but only a few points over average, as the title only earned a seven out of ten, though graphics and audio managed to squeak out an eight.

All in all Farcry Instincts Predator is a mixed bag. Multiplayer is solid, fun and varied due to the mapmaker, vehicles and lots of guns. Singleplayer is great looking, vast in size and will immerse the player in the game world but has not really changed much at all since last year, which will disappoint many and may dissuade them from not picking up the game on launch (31st March). For those not having a background in Farcry it is a good buy and you will have hours of fun in singleplayer, multiplayer and mapmaking to your hearts content.

I have not tried this game yet on any platform, but after reading the review, I might rent it and give it a go.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Review

March 8, 2006 by David

IGN reviews Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, and they give it an outstanding 9.2 out of 10. It looks like if you like first person shooters, you can’t pass up on this game, and even if you don’t like FPS’s, you should grab this game.

Having spent the last weekend playing it non-stop again, I’ve reached many of the same conclusions I arrived at before and a few new ones. GRAW, as we’ve come to call it, is a first-rate game, one that not only looks next gen, but plays like it.

The list of impressive additions is long and detailed, just as the feature list is, but the core elements to this game emerge from the single-player campaign’s integrated presentation and graphics, which tie the game together like few before it. Both are impressive and well-handled and more significantly, they affect and enhance the most important thing, gameplay.

Mad Catz Xbox 360 MC2 Racing Wheel Review

March 3, 2006 by David

Mad Catz Xbox 360 MC2 Racing WheelShowing that some of their products work really well, and coming out before a racing wheel from Microsoft, the MadCatz Xbox 360 MC2 Racing Wheel was recently reviewed by TeamXbox, and they gave it an eight point eight out of ten, and an Editor’s choice sticker, not too bad for a third party product.

The MadCatz MC2 Racing Wheel is a nice wheel that does everything as advertised. The pedals are the nicest set you’ll find south of an Enzo, with just the right amount of tension and those cool vector hinges mentioned above. The gear lever has an ultra-stiff spring, micro-switches for a positive feel, and an ergonomic design. The wheel, although a bit small, has just the right amount of tension and a non-slip grip. And the controls are where they need to be, and are devoid of any feel of cheapness.

I will grab one when they have force feedback, as I think it’d be great with Need For Speed: Most Wanted.
