Logitech MX610

March 15, 2006 by Ben

Logitech MX610

Another CeBIT 2006 culprit, Logitech has launched a few new products at this year’s event, one of which is the MX610 for left-handers; the right-handed model was released in ’05.

I don’t remember the last time I was excited about the release of a new mouse, subsequent to the introduction of the optical mouse, however the MX610 looks so clean and functional, while retaining the element of being ‘cool’ and ‘geeky’.

The features include advanced cordless technology, precision laser tracking system, navigation controls, and email and IM activity lights. Unfortunately the email button only works with Outlook, and the IM button only supports MSN/Yahoo/Windows Messenger. The MX610 goes for about $60.

Robosapien RS2

Robosapien RS2

At the 2006 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, WowWee revealed the three newest members of the Robosapien series. One of which was the Robosapien RS2 Media (picture right), the newer brother of the Robosapien V2.

The next generation RS2 is set for release around the last quarter of 2006, and sports a LCD display on the torso, USB port and memory card. The 320×160 screen displays video from the robots helmet camera, captured in MPEG4, and saved onto the memory card.

The RS2 Robot has evolved and now allows motion capture and voice recordings to be saved to the memory card. Which can be further controlled via computer editing software, in order to sync both sound and movement into one fluid action.

Along with the functions of the older Robosapien V2, the RS2 has 11watt stereo speakers (hands) and subwoofer (back), which can be utilized by connecting an MP3 player to USB port and playing your stored music.

Samsung SGH-T809

Samsung SGH-T809

The SGH-T809 does not have the most attractive name, but damn its good looking, and it makes the Motorola RAZR look like a doorstopper. Samsung has achieved this by being able to combine such tiny dimensions (3.98? x 2.09? x 0.61?) with this huge list of features:

– A clear 240×320 LCD @ 262K colors

– 1.3 megapixel with zoom, flash, & video capabilities

– Bluetooth wireless technology

– MP3 audio player and ringtone support

– WAP compliant browser, GSM quad band technology

– 70MB internal memory + removable storage memory

Obviously the Samsung SGH-T809 comes with games, java, tools & apps, vibrate alert, speakerphone, PC Sync, custom graphics, picture ID, predictive text, MMS capability etc etc… but I’m sure you already knew that

Microsoft has an Urge.

January 5, 2006 by Gadzooki

Microsoft 3 years out of the gate unveils Urge, its new online music service

Using an appearance with Justin Timberlake, the Microsoft chairman debuted a new music service, Urge, to directly compete with the iTunes music store and interface. Urge launches with over 2 million tracks for purchase or as part of an all-you-can eat subscription, an option the iTunes music store doesn’t have. The offering will include exclusive material from MTV, though it will not be compatible with iPods, which are currently the most popular MP3 player.

Clearly this is a sign that Microsoft is moving more towards entertainment and gaming and away from chartered/update software such as Office or Outlook. And while I think its always good for cusomters to have a choice. I will be interested to see Urge and how it works. So far Itunes has changed the entire entertainment industry. Microsoft has a big competitor to catch up to. Let the fun begin.

If you have any particular areas that you’d like to get info on from the CES, drop a line in the comments. Although it will be duly ignored, at least you can say you tried!
