Yes, you read that right. Cars do wear bras! I just realized that’s what they call those black hood covers you usually see on set-up cars.
It’s impossible to talk about the car bra without making a joke about how well car bra supports your front end. So there, it’s out of the way and we can get down to business. A car bra, also called a front-end mask, is a piece of vinyl that wraps around the exposed front portion of your vehicle. Not surprisingly, a custom car bra protects against flying rocks, debris, and myriad other odds and ends that might smack the front of your car, causing dents and scratches. A car bra is also a styling accessory, though, creating a sleek, custom look at the front of your ride. (source)
Yes, car bras do protect your car’s front-end. How suitable! My car’s front end has a few dings and scratches–I think I better get a bra for it then!
But here’s something even better. A full-body car bra! That’s what they call those full car suit that some manufacturers use to mask the appearance of the automobile while doing extensive road testing.
This is actually so they can test out the next model vehicles by driving them thousands of miles without showing off the new top secret design.
Sure, they can test out their autos extensively, but I’m wondering about how valid the test results will be, because cars’ skins and shapes are usually a big factor in aerodynamics. If the auto manufacturers are testing for stability, mileage and handling, then perhaps they should test with the car uncovered. Or maybe they already have that covered with testing on their own tracks.
At any rate, let’s make a guess what car is covered by the “car bra.” I’m thinking it’s a Volvo SUV. Oh, do check out the larger version of the image. You can see that the license plate says “Manufacturer Plate.” Maybe we can trace the plate to which manufacturer the car is from.
