iPhone 4 Case for Just in Case You Need to Open Bottles

June 10, 2011 by Noemi

Opena-iPhone-4-case1

The iPhone (regardless of the model) is undoubtedly one of the most sought after mobile phones today, if not THE most sought after one. Of course, we cannot discount the fact that the gadget itself offers so much fun for the user. However, the plethora of accessories for the iPhone makes owning one even more fun.

Check out this iPhone case, which might very well be the coolest one out there. The brain child of Australians Christ Peters and Rob Ward, the Opena case for the iPhone 4 does more than protect your beloved gadget from scratches and all that jizz. If you find yourself facing an emergency – such as having bottles of beer to open and not having a bottle opener handy – then your Opena case will save the day.

So how did the guys come up with this idea? In their Kickstarter page, they share: ((Opena at Kickstarter))

If you’re anything like us you like to travel light. The one thing we always have on us is our phones. The one thing we always seem to be looking for is a bottle opener. Some of our friends carry bottle openers on their keys but there are times when you don’t always have your keys with you. If you’re drinking should you really be driving anyway?

After consuming a few ales one sunny afternoon we came up with a solution. Why not put a bottle opener into an iPhone case…? Brilliant!

Not exactly a “Why didn’t I think of that” moment, but the guys are on to something, I think. If you’re concerned about the case/bottle opener not being safe enough to protect your baby, you shouldn’t. That is, of course, one of the main considerations that the inventors had when they conceptualized the project.

They are currently raising funds – target is $15,000. You can join in on the fun and be one of the first to receive the Opena. For a mere $15, you get the Opena shipped to you. There are only 100 slots for this. The more you give, the more perks you get. You can check out their Kickstarter page for more information.

June 9, 2011 by Rogue

I consider myself an admirer of all things Apple. I think their products are really cool and if I had deeper pockets, I’d be joining the Apple bandwagon and buying every single thing that the company produces. Right now all I have is a four year old Macbook, various iPods and an iPad 2 I bought on launch day. [Read more…]

Survivor Extreme-Duty Case for iPhone 4

May 9, 2011 by Noemi

survivor-ip4-6
The iPhone 4 has received more than its share of bad rap because of how fragile it is. Unlike its predecessors, this iPhone 4 can easily break with a single drop. And we know just how likely it is for users to drop their iPhone 4. In spite of the fact that it is easily one of the most prized possessions of many people, one just can’t avoid dropping their gadget every now and then. With other gadgets, there is always a second chance. They might still work even after a drop. With the iPhone 4, there is also that chance, but it is more likely that you would have to buy a new one. (Make it the iPhone 5 when it comes out.)

Recognizing this issue, Griffin Technology has come up with a solution for clumsy iPhone 4 owners: the Survivor Extreme-Duty Case for iPhone 4. If their tests are to be believed, then you can drop your iPhone 4 – even kick it! – and still be able to use it properly. That is, as long as you have the case. It is supposed to meet – even exceed US and UK military standards! Check out these numbers relating to the tests the case has passed.

  • Shock/Drop: Concrete floor from 6′ (1.8m)
  • Wind/Rain: 1 hour at 200mm/hr
  • Vibration: 18 hours at 20-2000 Hz
  • Sand/Dust: 3 hours at up to 18 m/s

Pretty impressive, don’t you think? Words and numbers don’t mean much until you’ve seen the case in action, though.

As the disclaimer at the beginning of the video says, don’t try any of those things at home. While the Survivor case is meant to protect your phone, it just is plain silly to tempt fate!

Anyhow, the frame of the Survivor case for the iPhone 4 is made of polycarbonate that is shatter-resistant, and to add more protection, it is covered with silicone, which is shock-absorbing. As for the screen – which might very well be the most sensitive part of your device – it is also protected by a clear protector which will not be a hindrance to normal usage.

For a mere $49.99 (at the Griffin Store). You can choose from white, black, olive green, and pink (yes pink!). If you want it cheaper, try Amazon and eBay.

Go ahead and bring your iPhone 4 to the beach or to wherever you’re going. With this case, you can rest easy.
