I never had a thing for cars. Sure, I like looking at them, but I never wanted one really. I know how to drive, but only up to the third gear. Heheh. But there is one car that I will forever salivate on: the Volkswagen Beetle. It is the single cutest car on earth, and I will forever admire its sheer beauty. [Read more…]
Spotlight: Yahoo. New and Improved?
I think I lived under a rock for some time, where Yahoo is concerned. I’m a rabid Google fan, and almost all the main Internet services I use are Google-based.
But there are two services that I use that are not Google-owned: Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo Mail. Recently they’ve done some improvements, and I was… Shocked, to say the least.
Well, the e-mail storage becoming unlimited in space elicited not much of a shock in me. Rather, my reaction was: “Well! It’s about time!” But what made my jaw drop was…
Yahoo’s “OMG”.
OMG indeed!

Swallow My Pride Part 2: Living on Windows XP Again
If there’s anything that has been the most ironic in my move to my nation’s capital, it would be that… I am back on Windows.

Swallow My Pride Part 1: Living on Dial-Up
Back in my hometown, I had a 1MB DSL/broadband connection, and I was just zipping through the Internet at speeds that I was getting only too comfortable in. Now that I moved to my country’s capital, I am currently stripped of my DSL connection, as I have to wait for my account to be transferred, a process that would take a few days to a few weeks.
Because of that predicament, I currently have to put up with a maximum of 56KB in connection speeds. Last night, as I was turtle-crawling through the web, I was on the verge of an emotional breakdown, because several projects had come in and I didn’t know of a way to speed up my connection until I thought it was time to turn to my favorite resource: Google.com.

Microsoft Surface: Cafe/Bar/Resto Computing of the Future?
While everyone was still reeling from the iPhone’s release, Microsoft had unveiled a project that is up to, or above Steve Jobs’ caliber in terms of innovativeness. Announcing, Microsoft Surface.
Christian Churches and Technology: Are They Compatible?
We have this notion that churches are dingy institutions and that poverty is equated to holiness. I do not want to denounce anyone’s faith if he or she believes in that, but I just want to tell you, that churches actually benefit from the use of gadgets, too. [Read more…]
Linux+Laptop: Like Donuts for Coffee?
I don’t know what it is with technology that makes you hunger for more. When you get a kick-a** machine today, by tomorrow, you just have to have it replaced for amped-up specs.
It’s all a matter of choice. While us Apple Fanboys and Fangurls (yeah, I’m “coming out” and finally admitting it. :p) are loyalists for Apple machines, consumers who want freedom of choice want customizability. In my observation, the average Windows users like their machines pre-configured and pre-loaded with the operating system in vogue at the moment, while the Windows and Linux power users want to go crazy with their machines.
But since in the US and elsewhere in the world the number of “average” Linux users is on the rise, there is a need for computer manufacturers to carry lines of their products that are pre-installed with an easy-to-use Linux distro. [Read more…]
How Far Will You Go In Your Tech Obsession?
I’ve become a YouTube addict lately, and I’ve come across a really cool lady who’s got everything I believe a man could want: looks, style, a great sense of humor, and tech know-how. She also has something I really admire in any woman: pride in her country and culture.
This lady I’m talking about is HappySlip, a YouTube star. She is on the Top 10 of YouTube’s Most Subscribed list, and has been nominated for the Best Comedy category of the 2006 YouTube Video Awards.

Do You Want to Talk to God?
Titane Interactive Solutions is a web design company with several seamlessly-created sites to their name. Among them are Can You Trust Your Mates, a funny website on how you cannot trust your friends who drink and drive. It is part of the “Don’t drink and drive” campaign in New Zealand.
Another impressive site they have under their belt is that of Celadon Collection, a furniture company. The group uses a lot of flash in their work, and the pictures they use are just breathtaking.
But I’m not here to talk about their portfolio. I’m here to talk about their cute iGod Artificial Intelligence Chat app. [Read more…]
A Treat for Voracious Readers
If you’ve been trying to find that rare copy of Bill Gates Quotes on the Internet, and just can’t find it anywhere, there is an e-book site that might interest you.
The site is called Wattpad.com, and it is basically a repository of e-books that is targeted for the mobile phone. It has a service for sending directly to your phone, and it even has an e-book reader you can download then send through bluetooth or usb. I have come across Lord of the Rings copies in different languages there. Harry Potter books also abound.
What I used to do when I wanted to read a text file on my phone was that I would make an e-book using BookShelf 2.1.5 then upload the .jar file to my phone’s memory card through the USB. It was simpler to use for me than TequilaCat, and produced better-looking e-books. I got quite a lot of e-books from Wattpad, then used BookShelf to make my e-books.
BookShelf e-books helped me in a lot of ways. The e-books I made saved me from boredom when my back ached so bad and I had to rest in my room, away from the desktop (pre-Sayuri days). BookShelf also helped me in school. Since I don’t like copying the lecture notes, I would just take note of what I had to study on, look for them on Wikipedia, copy and save as text, make an e-book with it, then go to school and read the notes on the jeepney. Sure saved me lots of ink and paper. 🙂
Wattpad houses so many quirky works, both personal stuff and books that notable writers have written. If you are a voracious reader, you will go crazy there.
With Wattpad and BookShelf, there will be no need for you to buy a gadget that will exclusively be for e-book reading. But if you want a wider screen. I guess they’ll be useful for you. 🙂
