Joystiq has a great article up entitled “Five things I hate about games”, and in it the author talks about the things that are currently bugging him.
- The portable device trade-off.
- Just-for-kids perceptions.
- My wife won’t play ’em.
- Exergaming is too lame.
- Games aren’t educational enough.
My list would be more about PC and Xbox 360 gaming, as other than a few board games, that’s all I play on, so the first one about portable gaming does not effect me, neither does the exergaming, which I never do. I totally agree with the others on the list though, and have a few more to add.
Originality, or rather, the lack there of. I am so tired of sequels, and expansions on games. Why can’t game developers come up with a distinctly new experience in gaming? Is it really that hard? Has it all been done? I don’t want to pay more money anymore for Doom IV, or Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War: You Catch them All.
