google-phone.png A few weeks back I blogged about search engine giant Google’s plan to release the Google Phone. The move is seen as a direct challenge to Apple’s recent entry into the mobile phone market with its highly successful iPhone. The initial speculation was that the Google Phone, or GPhone, will most likely have a 2008 or even 2009 release especially since Google just recently identified a manufacturer for the gadget. But according to Indian news source Rediff.com, the company is actually just two weeks away from launching the phone and that the release will happen simultaneously in both Europe and the United States.

It is the kind of news that would most likely make you reach for that salt shaker but a Google spokesperson has been very noncommital in the way they addressed this speculation, which is just further fueling talks. If Google is doing this deliberately to create some buzz for their product then they are doing a great job.
