42 String Guitar

I just couldn’t pass this sucker up. Could anyone really play this thing or is it just a gimmick? With 10 fingers and two hands, it seems like overkill to me. But what do I know. I spent three years trying to learn to play guitar and have very little to show for it.

Four necks. Two sound holes. 42 strings. Two access doors; one on the upper player’s side and one at the tail block.

Created by luthier Linda Manzer for guitarist Pat Metheny, the instrument took 2 years to build (approximately 1000 hours), and when the 42 strings are strung up to high tension, the Pikasso is under approximately 1000 lbs pressure. It weighs 6.7 kg or 14 3/4 lbs.

Man, that thing is a beast. I’ve played guitar for about 10 years now, and I can’t imagine a guitar more ugly, or less player-friendly! There’s a reason why guitarists normally have more than one guitar. Pat Metheny, you have great skills… However, I hate the guitar you have had built!
