With summer in full swing, expect to see gadgets that carry functionalities that will be of maximum use to people who want to stay outside now that the weather is warm. One of the more versatile and, frankly, clever gadgets I’ve seen that definitely spell S-U-M-M-E-R  is the Umbrella Pole iPod Dock and Light.

The device — which comes from Sharper Image, the store that consistently surprises me with their cool must-have inventory – is a cleverly designed piece of equipment that will definitely see a lot of use during summer. The Umbrella Pole iPod Dock and Light has a name that is so obviously self-explanatory. It’s a small device that you can attach to practically any umbrella pole (as long as the diameter of the umbrella pole does not exceed 3 inches in diameter) and when attached can bring two things to your table – lights and music. The device has white LEDS attached to the whole radius of the device and it provides very bright white light, which is perfect for when you want to keep your party well into the night. No worries about the battery life either. If you used as a light source only, the rechargeable battery can provide light for up to 30 hours. There is also a handy dock for your iPod for when you want to play DJ in your party. The battery will provide up to 5 hours of music. It also has a small LCD that acts as the display for the dock but also provide a visual display for the radio and for temperature.

The brilliant thing about the design of this device is that, in case, summer showers catch you unaware you won’t have to rush to bring the device indoors since it is attached at the top of the umbrella, chances of it getting wet are almost non-existent.
