tent-night_jpg_autothumb_w-550_scaleSummer is here and you are probably starting to clean up your camping gear and getting it ready. If you are anything like my family, camping is one of the activities that you look forward to each year. As the time for camping fast approaches once again, you might find yourself wanting to get some new gear.

Well, take a look at this new tent from Orange – the Glastonbury Solar Concept Tent. It is so cool that any camper or geek for that matter would not hesitate to snap one of these up. The thing is, it is currently only a concept and we would have to make ourselves content with the idea that it might be out in the market in the future.

So what makes the Glastonbury Solar Concept Tent so cool? First, the material of the tent is not your ordinary waterproof fabric. In fact, the fabric has solar threads woven into it, making a photovoltaic fabric. How is that cool? Think about it…during the day, when the sun is shining, your tent acts as an energy storage. At night, you do not have to worry about light, power for your GPS, your cell phone, or whatever other gadget you may have with you.

The tent even has a built in hub, which tracks the power that is stored and consumed. Even better, the floor of the tent has heating capabilities. Yes, just in case the wilderness night gets a bit too chilly, the tent will keep you warm.

It sounds too good to be true, huh? Maybe. Then again, maybe not. The only thing I am worried about is how much this baby is going to cost when – and if – it does come out.

This looks more like a house for the future. I mean, solar energy…What I would like more would be a ventilation system for all those mornings when the sun starts heating your tent and you wake up with your brain boiling.
