The most powerful hand held laser

The Guinness Book of World Records has tagged the Spider 2GX as the most powerful hand-held laser in the world. I’ve seen videos of this gadget pop a balloon, light a match stick, light a candle, and hey… even burn leather (not thru and thru though thank goodness!).

The Spyder II GX is a military-grade laser gadget encased in a lightweight 6061-T6 aerospace aluminum shell. The laser body is Military Type III black anodized to protect against scratches. It’s water resistant and well… fit for the rough play or plans you may have. It’s a great tool for laser tag games or whatever you may find fun to do in the dark.

It’s also designed to operate under the most demanding of conditions, and is the first portable laser equipped with thermoelectric cooling. With a 100% duty cycle, the Spyder™ II GX has the most burning and beam visibility capabilities Wicked Lasers has to offer. Powered by a single 18650 high capacity lithium battery, the Spyder II™ GX is visible for hundreds of miles, and is a glimpse into the future of green laser technology.

You are advised to use eye protection like protective sunglasses when using this product. A pair is sold for $29.99 as an added order when you get the Spyder II GX. The Spyder II GX though is a whopping $1,699.99! You’ve got to be a serious user to get one of these babies.

FYI the Spyder II GX is not the “worlds most powerful handheld laser” MaxisLasers has built a class IV 800MW green handheld laser and is going to be available for sale spring of 2009. Can’t wait, this is a very cool laser. It has a built in cooling system that prevents any damage to occure to the pumping diode and a really cool user interface. It also has safety interlocks making it legal to buy within the US!! If anyone is interested in getting more info just ask in a follow up comment
