This is a rather old gadget already, but it's worth a look because of renewed interest in tablet computers thanks to the iPad. The Always Innovating Touch Book is a smartbook that has a detachable touchscreen so you can use it as a tablet computer whenever you want or need it to be. I know we've seen this on Lenovo smartbooks already, but the Always Innovating Touch Book has an advantage over the competition - everything about this is open source! Yes, the hardware and software on this smartbook is open source, and is spearheaded by Gregoire Gentil, the man behind the Zonbu Desktop and Laptop.

One of the things that I really don't take for granted when I bring my laptop around everywhere I go is security. Aside from physical security (you know, never taking the laptop out in scary areas, never letting the bag out of my sight, bringing a Kensington lock), you can never be too careful about software as well. Now, if you don't like carrying around a full computer, but you like to keep your data with you all of the time, you might want to consider the IronClad. Created by Lockheed Martin - yes, the guys who created the F-22 Raptor fighter jet - the IronClad is ...

iwopen If you think about it, we've amassed a lot of security features for our various gadgets by now. We have password encryption, biometric scanners, and alarms to protect our gadgets. But if you think about it, one important thing that we need to really protect seems to have been overlooked. I'm talking about the wallet. We keep a lot of important things in the wallet, yet we seem to have not given any thought on how to secure our belongings inside the wallet. If we lose our wallets, we basically give the thief free rein with our money, credit cards, ATM cards, IDs, and our other personal trinkets that we keep in them. We're basically ...

I know, people are demanding that they get to use their phones the way they want to, and jailbreaking is a way to free your phone from the shackles of Apple's tyranny. But jailbreaking opens up your phone to security risks and now, we have two separate incidents of iPhones being hacked. jailbrokeniphoneattackmessager First off, we have the Dutch hacker who held iPhones (that left SSH running) for ransom. The message read, "Your iPhone's been hacked because it's really insecure! Please visit doiop.com/iHacked and secure your iPhone right now! Right now, I can access all your files." Visiting the URL directs the user to send €5 to a PayPal account, after which the ...

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 (also called the Rachel) is going to be unveiled this November 3, and we are really devoid of any real information about this highly-anticipated phone. The Rachael will be Sony Ericsson’s first Android smartphone. Its features should include a 4 inch WVGA touchscreen display, 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Wi-Fi, GPS, 8MP autofocus camera and a 3.5mm headset jack.

Okay, we're all heavily anticipating Nokia's new Maemo-powered phone, the N900. I'm one of the few who would atually prefer this over the iPhone. No, seriously. As you can see, the browser is running on the Mozilla engine, and quite frankly, that's a huge plus factor for me. As much as I love the Opera Mini 5 beta running on my phone, I'm excited to see a mobile device running a Mozilla browser. Also, full Flash. How many mobile devices can boast of that? I'm kinda disappointed that they're using Flash 9.4, but I'm pretty sure they'll be using Flash 10 once the N900 comes out. One feature I ...

cellcEverybody's sure to have a mobile device today for it has revolutionized the way we communicate with each other. It has created a niche in popular society, responsible for words such as SMS, Texting, Twitter, iReports and many more as testament to our reliance on the said technological wonder. Some love them some hate them but you'd have to give credit that without it, we would still be living in an age where phones had wires. cellb Cellular phones are one of the most prolific, intrusive and indispensable technologies we have and they pack a lot of technology in so small ...

One of my prized finds during the Black Friday sale was a Plantronics BlueTooth mobile headset.  I think I've received too many phone calls while walking, driving, jogging these days and I felt kinda silly holding up my phone while I do my business soooo... I told myself I'd get one pronto.  The thing that held off the purchase was price,  BlueTooth mobile headsets go from the lower $50s to the upper $90s!  I didn't want to spend much moolah for it.  Good thing I waited. First stop, Office Max.  At 5:30am I was the 40th in line.  They were selling Motorola BlueTooth headsets at about $35.  I thought that was a steal... well, err, after a ...
