Nokia seems to be pushing ahead with Symbian even though rumors abound of Nokia's move to switch the entire N-Series from Symbian to Maemo. Right now, there's new of Nokia skipping development of Symbian ^2 so that they can go ahead and proceed with Symbian ^3. And the good news is that we might be able to see Symbian ^3 this year, as Nokia is aiming to release v3 by the third quarter of 2010!
According to Digitimes:
The Symbian version 4 is believed to be based on the Qt cross-platform application development framework developed by Trolltech, which Nokia acquired in June 2008, said industry sources. The Qt ...

Don't worry, it had me fooled for a moment too.
Now these purported pictures of the mythical Apple Tablet or iSlate or iPad or whatever name it is the Apple rumor mill cranked out this time surfaced just a few hours ago. Posted by designer and user interface guy Dustin Curtis (the same guy involved in the American Airlines website design dust-up) on his Posterous account, the images are of the alleged tablet sitting on top of a MacBook pro.
While some blogs, like Mashable, are on the verge of being convinced on the basis of these pictures, I'm rather skeptical.
At first glance I bolted up in my chair, stared ...

Ah, science. What would we do without you? You make everything just plain awesome. And you keep on topping yourself each time.
Case in point: scientists have created a way to create a phaser that causes paralysis. You know, as in "set phasers to stun."
Scientists have developed a Star Trek-like phaser, capable of causing paralysis with a beam of light.
A phaser traditionally emits a beam capable of stunning or killing an enemy. However, anyone hoping that the machine will become a powerful new weapon could be disappointed, scientists have only proven the effect on worms.
Researchers have now found a way to paralyse tiny worms when they expose them to ultraviolet light. Even when the ultraviolet light was ...

First off, we have the Dutch hacker who held iPhones (that left SSH running) for ransom. The message read, "Your iPhone's been hacked because it's really insecure! Please visit doiop.com/iHacked and secure your iPhone right now! Right now, I can access all your files."

Now we interrupt the daily dose of geek gadget news for something that's really touching and at the same time so geeky that I couldn't help but to write about it here. Private Richard Hunt, the 200th U.K. soldier to die in Afghanistan, was buried over the weekend.
His father Phillip, enjoyed playing Call of Duty: World at War with his son. He left a copy of the game at his grave.
"Happy Birthday 'Hunty'. Play you again one day. Dad."
Seriously, man, that is touching.

Two of Britain's mobile network operators have announced their intention to merge into a single company, which would then become the largest in the UK.
If the T-Mobile and Orange deal is allowed to continue, it could be signed in November. The new company would then control over one-third of the UK market.

The two new Nokia music phones look blocky - but in a good way - to me. As of press time, there are no specs to go along with the pictures just ...

Justin D. Gawronski, a 17-year old student from Seattle, needs to work on his homework badly. And Amazon just made it a lot harder for him. You see, he downloaded an e-book and put it on his Kindle. And when Amazon went on its super-secret deletion spree of e-books, well, his homework went kaput.

In a short and frankly unsurprising press release, Apple has announced that Google's Dr Eric Schmidt has resigned from its board of directors.
Schmidt has been on Apple's board for three years, throughout rumors and actualization of both the iPhone and Android-based phones, but now that Google is looking to further push both Android and its own operating system (ChromeOS), that conflict of interest is all too apparent.
