Project Virgle

Posted by Jim as News, Science
I think the name sells the concept, eh?  It is naturally a project under the partnership of Google and Virgin companies (owned by Sir Richard Branson).  I'm a bit impressed that Branson has even made a post on Google's official blog. Yeah, it must be a ghost writer, but who knows! Let me give you the blurb by Branson: "Virgle's goal is simple: the establishment of a permanent human settlement on Mars. Larry Page, Sergey Brin and I feel strongly that contemporary technology is sufficiently advanced to make such an effort both successful and economical, and that it's high time that humanity moved beyond Earth and began our great, long journey to explore the stars and ...

Batman : Gotham Knight gets an official release date on July 8, 2008, the new animation feature film from Warner Bros. and gives us a sneek peak of what happens between Batman Begins and Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight which opens on the theaters on the 18th of July, now supposedly this animation feature film will be a sort of the "animatrix" for the Batman movies kinda like what the real Animatrix did for The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Watch out for it, because I'm sure as hell I'm gonna buy it when it comes out, and maybe contemplating if I should get the Blu-ray Hi-Def Edition, which I know would be so much better....

Captain Kirk’s Guide to Women Captain Kirk’s Guide to Women (Star Trek) (Paperback) The Legendary Men Of Romance -- Casanova, Don Juan, James Bond, move over because only one man can teach us how get every woman we want, even if it's anywhere on the planet or the whole freaking universe. A tale of two worlds: The guy who woke up, opened the Apple website (a cult member no less): "I knew it!  I knew it!  It was worth the wait. (motions to do the macarena geeky dance).  Where's my plastic?  Oh there you are!  Come here you... come here you... aahhhh.... let's go to the apple store you and I. (winks at his card, and hippity-hops out the door).  From a distance, he shouts 'I LOVE YOU STEVE JOBS!' ".Now the guy who woke up, opened the Apple website (a high ranking cult member, an early adopter definitely):"Noooooooo!!!  Why did you do it!  I trusted you... (and in an eeny meeny voice) I loved you! (squeeky whimper). Whyyyyy!!! Back to reality:News news news. ...

Well, the CES was a little while ago now (back in 7-10 Jan, held in Las Vegas). Unfortunately, this year was more of an evolution of current gadgetry rather than a revolution to display anything genuinely exciting. Nonetheless, there are a few new developments we should, as gadgeteers, take a look. Smart GPS Not just a provision of point to point navigation equipment and software anymore, most of the major GPS suppliers are moving to ‘smart’ versions of their hardware. The focus is (luckily) still on getting access to on-the-move information such as cinema times, parking spaces and traffic awareness information. This one would be particularly useful for me as there’s always a blackspot I hit every ...

AOL News

Posted by Mr Butterscotch as News, PC, Software Features, The Web
AOL has a massively long history on the Internet, being one of the firs tcompanies to really get people online (even if you don’t like the service they provide). Back in 1999 there was an acquisition of Netscape Communications Corporation, i.e. Netscape Navigator – one of the leaders in web browsing. AOL played a massive role in assisting the launch of Netscape 6 – which happened to be Mozilla based (the company behind the Firefox browser) but still Netscape branded. AOL was a major source of support for the Mozilla Foundation and the company continued to develop versions of the Netscape browser based on the work of said Foundation. Whilst Netscape Navigator was used reasonably widely prior ...

Afraid of Going to the Dentist? Maybe this could help to take the pain away, by means of distracting you, while the dentist drills away and does his way with your teeth. I interrupted my “early morning” reverie with one of the biggest shockers of my recent existence. I was peacefully having breakfast, a rare event in my existence, when I came across this Philippine Star article that I just had to blog about. Well, most of us are painfully aware of the recent developments with Al-Qaeda, Iraq, and the South East Asian threats Jemaah Islamiyah and even the Abu Sayyaf. I was already unaware of the recent developments in the Philippines when I just absentmindedly bought my first national daily in eons. I thought there was little purpose to my buying the thing, just mere frivolity, when a headline caught my eye. It is relevant for me for two reasons: this is a perfect example of how technology can be abused, and events like these have another, more personal significance to me.

The 3G iPhone

I’ve had 3G on my Nokia N95 enabled since I got it – which is about a month or two ago now. I was thus surprised to learn that the iPhone didn’t include this much faster way to connect to the Internet. Consequently, I wasn’t exactly surprised when Steve Jobs big announcement turned [...]

I’ve had my fair share of traveling around the USA with my trusty NextStar GPS system.  I never leave home without it, Chicago has too many freeways, turn pikes and fly overs for me to deal with.  When I need to get from point A to point B in Chicago land and the [...]
