Now if you'd like your old first generation iPod touch to be a bit more... open, wait a little while and you can run Google's Android operating system on it.
Now the person who ported Android for the iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G is now working to bring Android OS to the first generation iPod touch. Obviously, you can't make calls on it, but then this is an exciting project if you'd like to run an operating system other than iPod OS on your iPod touch.

Oooh boy, Apple's legendary secrecy standards seem to be a little bit lax lately. You'd think they'd tighten up security after Gizmodo's now-legendary iPhone leak, which resulted in a collective gasp heard round the web, along with the obligatory lawsuits and raids. you'd think Apple would take precautions to keep this from happening again.
Apparently, another iPhone has been leaked and is being scrutinized by the Vietnamese blog Taoviet. And yes, you got it right: Vietnam. How the next generation iPhone landed in the hands of those guys is beyond me. Well, except for the fact that they allegedly paid $4,000 for it.

Now, I don't mean to sound like a fanboy here, but the iPhone still is the best-looking smartphone out there. I may not be totally sold on the iPhone OS and Apple's Apps Marketplace, but the iPhone's smooth, minimalistic hardware always appealed to me. And then there's the iPhone OS. I know, there's so much love for the iPhone OS and its huge apps marketplace, but it really is not my cup of tea. I'd rather go for something more... open. Kind of like Google's Android.

So, the lucky guys at Gizmodo were able to get their hands on an iPhone 4. There's a bit of a story behind their acquisition. Apparently, Apple has been testing the new iPhone in the wild already, and one of Apple's employees have, well, misplaced one. A lucky soul found the iPhone in a bar in Redwood City, and was sent to Gizmodo. Wow.
Now, we really can't be 100% sure that this is indeed the new iPhone. But there are lots of clues that point to it being real. There really is an Apple employee who reported that he lost a prototype iPhone. It was covered in a rubberized casing so it can be disguised as an iPhone 3GS. Right ...

After years and years of waiting for the almost-legendary Apple Tablet to even show up, today, Apple just finally ended years of speculation in their "Newest Creation" event by showing a demo of the Tablet, named iPad. Yes, everyone. The Apple iPad is real, and it's pretty. We all know how crazy the hype has been for the iPad. We've seen blogs dedicated around 50% of their articles just for iPad rumors, and really, I got sick of hearing about the magical computer's capabilities. I got to the point where I was expecting somebody to say that the Apple Tablet can cure cancer.

Don't worry, it had me fooled for a moment too.
Now these purported pictures of the mythical Apple Tablet or iSlate or iPad or whatever name it is the Apple rumor mill cranked out this time surfaced just a few hours ago. Posted by designer and user interface guy Dustin Curtis (the same guy involved in the American Airlines website design dust-up) on his Posterous account, the images are of the alleged tablet sitting on top of a MacBook pro.
While some blogs, like Mashable, are on the verge of being convinced on the basis of these pictures, I'm rather skeptical.

I guess it's Apple rumor time again, folks. Now the rumor mill is saying that the new iPhone is coming out in the middle of the year (most likely April or May) and that it has a lot of features that are making a lot of Apple fanboys - and some iPhone-indifferent geeks like me - drool.

So just the other day, we were inundated with news about Apple renting a venue for January regarding a possible Apple Tablet launch. But of course renting a venue and showing off the product are two different things. For all we know, it might just actually be another iPod launch.
But now we're getting some rumors that are actually pointing the way to an Apple Tablet launch. It now looks like Apple is preparing apps for the (as of yet nonexistent) gadget. According to Silicone Alley Insider:

I know, people are demanding that they get to use their phones the way they want to, and jailbreaking is a way to free your phone from the shackles of Apple's tyranny. But jailbreaking opens up your phone to security risks and now, we have two separate incidents of iPhones being hacked.
First off, we have the Dutch hacker who held iPhones (that left SSH running) for ransom. The message read, "Your iPhone's been hacked because it's really insecure! Please visit doiop.com/iHacked and secure your iPhone right now! Right now, I can access all your files."

Apple has yet again upgraded its line of all-in-one iMacs, this time offering video-friendly 16:9 displays capable of displaying high definition video.
You can choose from either a 21.5-inch or 27-inch widescreen LED-backlit display, capable of at least a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution (up to 2,560 x 1,440), with up to a 3.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor or the new 2.8GHz Intel Core i5 — a first for Apple.
