Consumers and businesses are increasingly more concerned about global warming and climate change, and market demand for zero emission electric cars is developing rapidly. As a result, a whole new technology base needs to emerge quickly, to keep pace with social and legislative change. Liberty Electric Cars recognises that a significant challenge to turn innovative zero emission ideas into volume production rests with the industry's first tier of component suppliers. The purpose of the Liberty Zero Emission Vehicle Foundation is to raise awareness, and attract funds and investment into this sector from private and public sources. It will accelerate the market introduction of zero emission vehicle technologies, over what can be achieved by global market forces alone. Barry Shrier, CEO, Liberty ...

Microsoft Silverlight It’s not that often when a technology comes along that leaves me amazed. You know, the sort of thing when you look at it you think “wow, this is good. Not just good, but perhaps is going to make a difference to websites in a very real way in the near future”. I got this impression when I sat in on a Silverlight demonstration today. Whilst Microsoft sometimes does things in an odd way, this is clearly a technology that they’ve taken time and effort to think out. Here’s what they have to say: Microsoft Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform, and cross-device plug-in for delivering ...

The BRB Evolution

Posted by Mr Butterscotch as Automotive Features
The BRB Evolution There are cars, and then there are those that look like they could well be Batman’s next set of wheels. In this case, the BRB Evolution fits firmly into the latter category. What makes it special? Well, it’s taking a different tack to the usual ‘oh we should all go electric’ environmental argument – actually accepting that most people like and want cars. As such, the trick of the BRB Evolution is to fold in half – great when there isn’t much in the way of parking spaces. In the future, there’s going to be an even bigger demand globally for cars then there is now. ...

The One-Wheeled Wonder

Posted by Mr Butterscotch as Automotive Features
The Uno Bike If you like your transport minimal, then the Uno single-wheeled motorbike might just be your thing. It certainly looks like a mode of transport that is a) ready for a future of low-emission requirements and b) should provide a really fun way of getting around. The vehicle has been constructed by 19 year old Ben J Poss Gulak, who came up with the unique design of the one-wheeler that runs on electricity alone. As with other similar vehicles, this means that it is completely silent when in operation. Naturally you might be wondering how it stays up when it only has one wheel, given the conventional wisdom of a ...

Nissan Denki Cube

Posted by Mr Butterscotch as Automotive Features
Nissan Denki Cube There’s no doubt that Nissan’s Cube has proven to be a huge success in Japan – even if it hasn’t really penetrated other territories as of yet. However, the Denki Cube Concept (denki being Japanese for electricity) has recently been shown off at the British Motor Show – too much critical acclaim. The Denki Cube is powered by state of the art EV technology that emits twice the amount of power as a standard electrical battery and is likely to appear in a number of Nissan vehicles in the future. Interestingly, the Denki is very similar to the production Cube, in that it doesn’t have many curves, ...

We Love Golf! Format: Nintendo Wii Price: £39.99 (or around $50) Available: Now If you’ve played Wii Sports, you might have found (as I did) that Wii Golf is one of the best little minigames to play. It’s fun, relaxing and best of all the action does really well to mimic the actual sport. However, you may have been disappointed with the fact that Wii Sports golf is very short. This is where We Love Golf! can fit in. We Love Golf! transforms the Wiimote into a virtual set of golf clubs, creating the most immersive golfing experience available off the greens. This new title is being developed in partnership with Camelot ...

E3 Announcement – PS3 Video!

Posted by Mr Butterscotch as Gaming Features
Playstation Network In the first of what I hope to be several interesting E3 announcements, Sony has unveiled the latest feature to be added to the Playstation Network – downloadable films. Just announced today, the movie service will offer content from Fox Film, MGM, Lionsgate, Warner Bros., Disney, Paramount, Turner and Funimation – all from day one! Whilst the service was announced for Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, it has now been confirmed for the U.S. market with the store opening today. Prices range from $2.99 for a standard definition rental, $5.99 for an HD rental and finally a reasonable $14.99 for a movie purchase that downloads onto the PS3 hard ...

Ahead of their E3 related announcements on Monday morning, Microsoft have made some announcements regarding the state of play for the Xbox 360. First up, there’s a discount of the 20Gb version by $50 (no discount on the Arcade or Elite though). Next up is that the 20Gb is effectively being replaced by a 60Gb console, which will be available from August. This will cost around $350. Below is the official Microsoft press release: Redmond, Washington—Microsoft is giving consumers more gigabytes for their buck. The company today announced an Xbox 360® console with triple the storage space of the original console, but for the same price of $349 (U.S.) estimated retail price. Available in retail stores in the U.S. and ...

Hydrogen As An Alternative

Posted by Mr Butterscotch as Automotive Features
If you are environmentally aware, then you may well be driving a hybrid car – possibly even considering an electric car as a motor of the future. However, if you’re in the UK then there may be another solution available. A hydrogen refuelling station is set to be made available that could even be installed in the home – making Honda’s solution even more viable. For a while now, hydrogen has been the fuel of choice for those who have sought to lower emissions and stop the burning of fossil fuels (something that still takes place, by and large, even when using an electric car). Unfortunately, a big ...

A Car Interior I’ve gone for the gender-undefined person in the title, however when purchasing a car, statistically it’ll be the case that you’ll be speaking to a man, rather than a woman. Regardless, there are some key things that you should be aware of when going to purchase a vehicle. I hope that these helpful hints and tips really do make sure that you get what you want when you go to buy your new set of wheels. * Make sure that you’re specific about your requirements. The more specific you are, the more likely you are to get exactly what you want. Trade value is very ...

The 3G iPhone

I’ve had 3G on my Nokia N95 enabled since I got it – which is about a month or two ago now. I was thus surprised to learn that the iPhone didn’t include this much faster way to connect to the Internet. Consequently, I wasn’t exactly surprised when Steve Jobs big announcement turned [...]
